Not nearly as impressive as in the low res trailers. Definetly needs significant texture work and increased detail in the environments. However, snake looks great, while the soilders and other characters look a little less impressive.

While this title still has at least a year until release, it's nowhere near the visual silver bullet sony needs to show and justify the PS3's cost. Gears of War looks significantly better than this, as does a large number of 360 and PS3 titles, and about the same as many current PC titles.

Again, I'll emphasis that this game is quite a way off, but it's very disappointing to see next gen snake in a last gen enviroment. Of course gameplay is what matters, and this title is sure to improve, but this is supposed to be one of the PS3's flagship titles.

indeed, the geometry of the surroundings is crap compared to the snake model. Just look at that arch!

One thing you sort of have to remember is that the Metal Gear games use color filters and other techniques to get the most out of graphics (Shading, which the game seems to be in a very early stage of the gameplay lacking the fine tuning of shading the trailers did). Another thing to note is the general area of the shots: many of them are from a 3rd person perspective and not where you controlling Snake will be, so there will be some rough edges. Not to mention the possibility of toning down the graphics just to get the gameplay to run on a devkit (And I doubt Kojima and his staff has found a effective way yet to get it to run smoothly after only a little bit of time with the final Devkits). Same thing hapened with Twilight Princess.

So, in the end: Yeah, it looks like ass now. However, the final polish is where it will shine.

i compare this to the progress that was made when the first MGS2 screens for Ps2 were shown. They re either slow on getting their heads around the new hardware, or the new hardware just isn't all it is hyped to be.

I just gotta say. THANK GOD they did not just start throwing normal maps on every surface they can find.

Really tired of some of the 360 & ps3 games that are just normal maps anywhere and everywhere.

Snake looks fantasic tho. I think in the end MGS4 will be amazing.

Ya the enviroments don't look all that special right now but as I recall MGS4 is a good way off. They'll have plenty of time to fine tune things. However I'd agree PS3 isn't all it's hyped up to be.
