http://news.xbox.com/2016/03/14/letter-chris-charla-idxbox-updates-gdc/ The only problem I see is how does voice chat work seeing as they are separate to the actual games. Also with the modern style windows games, replacing win32 (from what I've heard), the PC side of things is going to be locked down and gimped (no SLI, no mods, no more than 60fps), in order for it to be compatible.. Also didn't microsoft try this before and failed ?
One step closer to making one unified netowork for play. But also one step closer to losing uniqueness in your platform. Microsoft is playing with fire lately.
It would probably start with a few games getting support then over time more games would be compatible as time goes on. Although the voice chat is a good question, though. I'm not sure exactly how that would work.
I think this is pretty clever, Ms has been against this for a long time. I'm sure I read Sony was keen but it was Ms that said no. Seems to me that it's smart from the lower selling platform - if your friends all play ps4 and you want to play with them, you need to get a ps4, even if you prefer the xbox. This way, they may still keep people on xbox that have friends on ps4.
Why did i get a flashback to "Shadowrun" when I heard this... because it failed, and the whole GFWL died.
I remember reading something about that as well. It wouldn't surprise me. I guess it's play with whoever at your own risk going forward. It'd be like someone using K+M going against someone using a controller in a fighting game.
I'm sure I read you can choose to just play against xbox folk on match making. Fps would be a bad game to play against pc. But ps4 vs xbox would be fine. Then fighters would be fine against all. I'm assuming you will be able to pick and choose
with microsoft locking down the modern application thing, there will be very little cheating from PC players and such a huge overhead that they will have just as much input lag as consoles haha..
