Microsoft has begun pulling team members from the xbox effort in order to try to get windows vista back on track. It seems the media core of vista is so buggy it won't run properly.
They have a statement out that that was BS from some website and that no xbox team members are being moved anywhere.
I don't know, this sounds a little strange if you ask me. I highly doubt they would pull people from Xbox to work on it. Absolutely, totally different departments. I'm also sure that Microsoft has more than enough people/resources working on it's most important, most expensive development yet. What would a guy on the Xbox team know about Vista anyway? Last build I tried of Vista wasn't to bad, all things considered. I'm always quite surprised to hear that there's major problems - but you never know... Hope this isn't the same source which said 60% needed to be re-written. [edit] after seeing Paulo's post: It seems there's a lot of people just talking shit over Vista to try and kill it early. I have faith, I'm sure it's going to be better than XP. Direct X 10 looks very interesting
It would be completely impossable for xbox employees to be moved from xbox to vista. For tax reasons, the xbox divison is treated as a seperate company. The programmers would literally need to be fired from xbox and re-hired at microsoft in order for that to work. I call BS. EDIT: I count 6 spelling mistakes in this post... how many can you find?
Lost all faith in Vista when saw it using 800mb RAM, doing absolutely nothing. I used it for a couple of hours on a friends PC, and although it looks great, still has problems. I know i'll probably have to upgrade to Vista to play games and so on. But that does not mean you have to like it or say it's good.
Thats still obscenely large for a beta. I'm not upgrading because theres nothing that compels me to do so - I'd rather stick to 2000 but unfortunately To play older games you need compatibility mode. Until theres a decent reason for me to upgrade for the few times that I use windows, I'm sticking to XP
I saw a beta version of Vista just the other day. It seemed to work quite nice, but it doesn't add anything functionally over XP at the moment. It promises to launch with loads of DRM nonsense built in, require a HDMI monitor for hi-def, and a bunch of other crap which sounds like a really good reason to put off upgrading until it's hacked to pieces. As for using 800mb when idle, I'd imagine that'd be about right for the final version. Vista is all about adding loads of unnecessary visual sheen so naturally the memory footprint is going to be huge. Just like XP didn't run too well on your old P3 700, Vista is aimed at that upgrade you haven't got yet. 800mb out of 2gb+ RAM (which is pretty much standard now for a decent new PC) isn't that much.
Man i was just expressing my opinion. I'm not saying everybody not to use it. Some people are angry with the whole world these days... Exactly what i tried to say. I guess i'm not so wrong then.
Vista seems to work pretty well for me. If it's chunking out 800 mb of ram, turn off the file system emulation. What your doing is emulating a big pice of the hard drive in ram, of course its going to eat memory like a hog. If the file system emulation is turned off, my guess is that the system is mis-reporting the memory usage, 800 mb of ram seems like a lot to me.
Regardless, Vista is bloatware in the extreme. Nobody can deny that. In fact, PC software in general is a horrible spoiled kid at the sweet/candy store.
I must agree with The Steadster, and Johnny. And Paulo I think you are beginning to be quite rude, when people are just showing an honest polite opinion. So what about , you grow up ? and also you learn how to be polite, instead of shouting some childish stuff out of your keyboard ? A cops role isn´t always to be a panzer fascist, or anything like that. Or for that matter the society´s trashman. But anyway I don´t care.
