I haven't seen 1600 Point cards around and a search led me to the unreliable GameFAQs board where somebody else says that he can't seem to find MSpoints cards anywhere.

Shortage? Discontinuation being real? Some crazy coincidence?

    What's going on here?

I've read that MS is shifting away from the points system and into straight dollars ala PSN, so this might be the start.

That's what I thought but I'm not sure and I can't find anything online.

Sounds plausible. They already do that with the full games they have on XBLA.

I bet the change will be happening this Fall. They probably stopped production on the points cards. Or they just want more credit cards saved on everyone's 360s.

im sure they will still allow you to buy them full price through the 360 - rip off i know but i would prefer it if they did move to currency so its easier to work out what im spending

Well, I hope they sell $20 cards then, because I'm not giving Microsoft my credit card to keep on file. Plus, you can sometimes find sales on the cards.

same here, ebay i get 12 months Gold membership (sometimes 13) for around £28 so MS don't offer much of an incentive to shop with them

ever since the original reports of people having problems getting their details removed i have avoided using any credit/debit card on the 360
