http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/823/823026p1.html Bizzare, my local developer here in Liverpool and the creator of such titles such as Geometry Wars and of Course Project Gotham (Metropolis Street Racer for the DC guys) has been recently acquired by Activision. I was under the impression that Microsoft Game Studios was something of a black hole, sucking-in developers and never spitting them out again (judging mostly from what happened with the Shadowrun developer). This is perhaps a move on MS' part to mitigate losses and create some capital in order to reach the deeply desired zero-point and get out of the red. I wonder if they d ever do the same with Rareware and allow the developer to go feral into the wild (before nintendo snatching them again :110. The comments are yours to make!
or is this an early sign of MS getting out of the videogame business? I guess not, 360 is popular, seling well, but not profitable the biggest ennemy of 360 at the moment are investors worried about their dividends... But I guess after 5 episodes of PGR (I include MSR) bizzare wants to move in other directions which I can understand, maybe PGR 5 will be developped by Sega Racing Studio, I mean SEGA Rally is no innovator but these guys can make a racing game. Anyway good luck Bizzare with Activision!!! Sabre
they never were part of MS were they? They were an indie developer that made a MS owned franchise for MS. They never owned them. It should say something that MS never bought them up though. It's not like Forza 2 is so great that is made PGR irrelevant. At least Bizzare Creations has made one more successful game than Rare this generation, and they have PGR4 coming out soon too. What the hell has Rare done to justify MS's purchase? I hope it hasn't soured them to acquiring quality developers. MS hasn't looked this stupid since shutting down their sports division back on the xbox. They purchased the high heat baseball franchise from the dead hands of 3D0, only to shutter their football and baseball game developer shortly after.
Johhny is correct Bizzare were an indie. MS still owns the PGR franchise. They HAD to ditch their sports games, it was the only way EA would come online.
As spot said, Johnny is correct. Geometry Wars is currently in development for the Wii (and I believe other systems) at the moment to be released with Sierra/Vivendi.
