    Personally, I've always prefered this.

    I liked this one:

So basically, they're going back to their roots a bit (pun intended).

Ah, Windows 95. I remember meeting you in '97 when I was 7 years old. Had a lot of fun playing Minesweeper on you until the day of the "Big Crash". Then I hated you after that.

    This is a true story.

Pretty sure my experience was 95. We had a computer that came with a sokoban clone with penguins that was quite difficult. I have a real soft spot for the dial up noise, which is related to by sokoban story, because when I opened the game a dial up box came up, for whatever reason if I clicked "cancel" on the box it took you to level 40. I'll never forget when me and my mum hatched a plan to show it to my brother when he got home like we'd made it that far.

    Ah happier times. :gravedigging:

Not a big deal I think. It still looks pretty much the same, just evolved.

    +1

Windows 95 and 98 were the greatest. Simple, was fun, had features and taught me a lot about computing just by clicking around and screwing things up.

Personally, anything with the 'DOS based kernel' was the best.
    (I forgot the kernel name)

Just curious, but had you been born when 95 came out?

Pretty plain, but that's how logos are today, very plain and modern.

Without a doubt by far still the best windows logo, I first got introduced to it with windows 3.11 , it was fun back then when building a computer actually required some skill and knowledge, today just about any 12year old can slap one together and not worry about ,jumpers, DMA,IRQ conflicts, hardware incompatibility from different manufacturers, not to mention the software errors and faults...

I have no idea why Microsoft feels the need to mess with its iconic logo, its perfect the way it was, and it did age well :)

Of course it matters. Why else would you have a logo? A logotype is extremely important in order to give consumerists a positive perception of your product. It doesn't affect the software in any way, but quite possibly it could make some difference in reaching out to buyers now that the competition starts to get really hard.

Sure, with rose-tinted glasses they were the greatest, but all the 9x Windowses were pretty awful in retrospect.

At least they could of kept their colours, all blue kinda doesn't show it's "Windows"

The Metro User interface is what has to go.

As an old Windows fundamentalist I was suspicious at first, and I'll remain so, but I've been thinking about this. I want to be able to use the desktop, and I will, they won't replace or remove it, but I mainly use 5 or 6 programs ("apps") anyway so it might as well be the starting screen for me.

But that is easy to disable.

I was born 95. Our first computer was a good few years old when we got it though and was running either 95 or 98.

Logo and colour scheme matters alot actually. Pepsi changed their colour scheme to a darker blue and lost market share in some asian countries because the color was associated with death.

The option to not use the Metro GUI exists im pretty sure...
