So in my town a Microsoft store opened a few months ago. I love visiting that store. I've yet to actually buy anything there, but every time I visit I'm given free things. So far I have a shirt, a light-up wristband, $25 worth of gift cards, even a bottle of water with a Microsoft label! Last time I visited I was speaking with a guy who I think was the manager. He gave me a card saying "join our team" and told me I should apply. I love the shop, but it'd be an hour drive each way and my current retail job is only about 30 minutes away. So I'm wondering if it'd be worth it.

    tl;dr
Do any forum members happen to work at a Microsoft Store or have friends that do? Is it an enjoyable place to work?
I could go ask one of the employees there, but of course they're forced to say nothing but good things, lol.

If it pays better and works out better to do it, then go for it. It could possibly lead to a higher position :)

I think they give you free stuff because you're the potential customer they have [IMG]

microsoft store now eh, do they really have that much out there to fill a whole store? although saying that theres the apple stores too which are 90% empty space 5% staff and 5% demo products (not counting storage)

anyway dont think it would be much different then any other retail job for a large company like said before, if its more money and better prospects then might be worth it

Well there's two in my area, so maybe I'll pay a visit for freebies that I'll end up throwing out.

If they sell FPP (ie. boxed software), then they could easily fill a whole store. But I'm pretty sure they focus on their main products nowadays: tablets with Win8 RT, Phones with Windows Phone 7/8, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Office 2010... maybe some Visual Studio and / or MSDN / Technet Subscriptions.

For those who haven't been, most of the store is set up very akin to an Apple store. Several wooden tables with a few laptops/desktops/tablets/phones to try on each. Then they have the back corners dedicated to specific products. The back left of the store is computer accessories- mice, keyboards, PC software. The back right of the store is xbox360 stuff, almost like a tiny GameStop.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys.

aah forgot about their hardware accessories but yeah assumed apple store-ish kind of thing, i dont like the interface with windows 8 and the windows mobile think it looks stupid and dumbed down but if they are giving out free stuff i might go in if one opens locally lol
