What does anyone think about the possibility of them making the three cpus dual core quad thread? They can change a few components and theoretically double the power of the system to match ps3. Anyone think microsoft is looking at the "saturn" upgrade path?
yeah, i think think they will. Power seems to be the most important part for them anyway (along with online).
I dunno, that'd seriously impact the cost of each system sold, and they're stretching on that front already... Saturn and PSX were released right on top of each other, while 360 and PS3 will have like a 6 month gap at least. I don't think it's in Microsoft's best interest to try to build tomorrow's technology into their console today at ludicrous prices in order to match a console that will have tomorrow's technology tomorrow for a presumably lower price. I mean, if PS3 will cost $465 6-8 months later, what would that technology cost 6 months earlier? Presumably more. Hopefully they'll just take advantage of the time jump and extra holiday season, then focus on software. EDIT: Unless they push the release back to match PS3, but I dunno if they can even do that now. They'd look like idiots.
I think the money would be best spent killing the sony hype machine. It killed the Dreamcast, It'll do all it can to kill the 360. Whack out a few hundred million adverts per second, Get as many exclusivity contracts (Decent ones, not 6months, more like 3 yrs) as possible, and then, and only then, will it whup sony's arse.
microsoft have a big dilem right now, they always thought the only way to defeat the ps3 was to release their next system before it. but the power seemed and still seems to be their best advantage in the current generation. what will happen if they loose that power in the hand of the enemy in exchange of the time without competition?
Clearly you havent seen the machine that MS is! If they want something forget contract buy the company! :smt082 Rare and Bungie so far... now to get a few more on. I doubt they are going to change anything right now. Overall when we see PS3 games are they really going to be that much better then the 360.... And by the logic that if you all think it needs to be faster then what about the revolution thats going to fall far far short of either consoles. The xbox being more powerfull then the playstation isnt even that important this gen... People are buying the consoles that have the games they want and some have both the PS2 and xbox. When it comes down to buying titles that are out on both they generaly read both reviews and buy the PS2 version if its that much better but it tends to be the same really. Apart from looking better on the xbox and the xbox having the huge appeal of Live. If anything their best advantage is xbox live.
alot of people (mostly casual gamers) bought the xbox only because it was the most powerfull out of the two (well, three, but they wouldn't even imagine buying a nintendo console) point at the line. Alot of casual gamers think the power does everything, if it's powerfull, games will be good dot at the line. Alot of casual players don't even own the money to buy the subscription fees of the live. And alot of that same gang really apreciate the ps2 online, because it's free. they do know the xbox live have better online, but they just can't afford it. so it's better than nothing. of course, some of those facts works for hardcore gamers and other non-casual gamers too.
It gives sony six more months to make the ps3 even more powerful. They could do all kinds of things to make it more powerful.
It would be nice if they upgraded some components it would help developers in the long run, I imagine. Then again they'd be taking a bigger hit per each unit sold, but that should pay off in the long run. But really they should just go for broke. Upgrade the hardware, run a crazy marketing campaign, and buy out all those consolidating Japanese devs. Then again, if they can just get exclusivity with certain key franchises that would work just as well. However I think it's too late for that now.
Yeah but I'm pretty sure Bill isn't in charge of the Xbox stuff, in fact I read in a time magazine today "Bill is important to us, but hes not driving this thing. God bless him, I think he wants to be more of a part of it than we actually feel comfortable with." loololollo silly ol bill ihavetonsofmoney gates.
He stepped down as man in charge, he's in a lesser role a long time now, he wanted to spend more time with his family. Microsoft is not all bill gates, but he is their most important founding member.
Probably an easy thing they could do is unlock that 1020p resolution on their ATI GPU, for show at the very least.
Yep, he stepped down years ago and let Ballmer run the show. Gates is now more or less the company "visionary" Why people continue to associate his name with the Xbox is a mystery. Aside from approving the project he has little to do with the design and day-to-day developments with it.
is it me ....and i know this is off topic...but the graphics...rendered or not for the ps3 and 360 seem a little underwhelming...i mean the duck test demo.....yea the ducks and water looked great but the ship looked like shit...and in all honestly...i was expecting a bigger leap from last gen to this one...i mean so what if the 360 ps3 can do ut2k7....the original xbox has done unreal2 and doom3..which looked close....i really havent seen that "game" that really brings home the reason to upgrade
