How many of you have been to a midnight launch for anything? I'm loosing my midnight launch-inity to the 3DS. Looks like fun, Get there a few hours early, dick around.
I believe Halo 2 was the only midnight launch I was ever a part of. Although, I only waited 10 minutes for each of those. I got their a little late and just walked into GameStop and picked up my copies. With Halo 2, I actually waited a few hours.
I hope it's a midnight launch, especially because that would make it Saturday night. I did it for the Wii and it was a blast. I'd definitely do it again, especially because there's great take-out spots on either side of my Gamestop.
Midnight launch for us brits is on a thursday! I just gotta find a way to kill 4 hours whilst camping outside..
Given that I used to work for Gamestop, I've not only been to a few, I've worked a few! Off the top of my head the only one I remember though was Halo 3. That was a big night. People coming back complaining because the limited edition casing scratched their games up. The manager at the time was cool, and helped those people the best they could. I will be at the 3DS midnight launch as well. Cannot wait for that!
I went to the midnight launch of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King at tesco. It was a disappointing affair - I got there an hour early to make sure I'd get a copy but no one was sure where to wait. A good few people turned up and many didn't even leace with a copy at all. The only shit thing is after all the queing only got the standard edition and not the collectors edition of the game - I know a few people just walked in to a random store as and when they could be bothered and got the Collectors edition without any effort =/
The Wii Halo 2 Halo 3 Halo ODST That's it as far as I can remember. Waited a couple of hours for Halo 2, just walked in for ODST and 3 at 12, and the Wii... a good half-day of waiting, but its the people in the line that make it all worth it. Especially since the Game Jew was their dressed as Mario singing Wii songs, was so fucking funny!
I was considering GAME's midnight launch for the 3DS, but would've had to lay £229.99... opted to get it the following morning for £187.99
Getting my Gamecube was the most memorable mid night launch I have. I remember being so stoked to get it and I got loads of freebies for going like a cardboard shaped Gamecube with a VHS tape inside with promos of upcoming games for it. Got loads of other stuff like keyrings and that. Was a good midnight launch and easily the best one for me. Such a shame the Gamecube didn't keep me as entertained as the N64
Sooo Gamestop lost my 3DS preorder and then found it again. The store I'd ordered at had closed, and it had took them awhile to unfuck themselves with regards to getting it applied to a different store. At any rate, my Gamestop IS having a midnight launch, which should be fun. Two weeks away!
I did the Halo 2 midnight launch and the Xbox 360 system launch. If I recall, both took place around late November so it was pretty damn cold. After seeing the freaks and basement dwellers at the Halo 2 event, I vowed never again to put myself through something like that. The 360 console was an exception and the people who stood outside for that were somewhat more normal.
I slept outside a Toys R Us for ps3, midnight launches are childs play is anyone holding out on trying 3DS until they have their unit in their hands? I know best buy has display units but I almost wanna just hold out
Yeah, I'm holding out. I camped for PS3 also. It was armageddon. The Tysons Corner VA SonyStyle store had 2,000+ people rushing in to get something like NINE units. Total absurdity. Kind of fun though.
Midnight launch TONIGHT! Not expecting PS3-like insanity, should be chill, but hopefully still fun. Leaving in an hour or so. Anyone else picking up a US unit tonight at midnight?
Yup! I'll be heading off to my local Gamestop (erm... rather, the Gamestop I used to work at, as it is not the closest) to pick up my 3DS in about 2 hours now. :nod:
My crappy GameStop doesn't open until noon tomorrow. It's inside the mall which opens for walkers at 10 am, so I plan on going around that time to sit outside the store and leach wireless. =)
