The women in the CCCUA student center were watching this, and they said it was sexual discimination for all these men to make her quit. Stupid women.

Yeah, just like it is discrimination that Bush didn't pick a Latino for the nominations...

I really wish they would do these as blind nominations like some places process resumes. In other words, look at the qualifications instead of the race/gender/other discriminatory "look we hired a ____ person" bullshit they do now.

    discrimination...what's that anyway? ;)
I'm sure you know what Voltaire said about opinions, dont you?
"I cannot agree with your opininon, but i could sacrifice my life for your possibility to defend your idea", or something like this.

this was just the master plan by the bush camp. Bush nominated someone clearly not qualified for the position knowing that the right wouldnt like her and the left would sit back and laugh. Now, he's gonna pull out the stops, nominate a full fledged conservative pick and play the partisan card when the Democrats don't like it. It's really a no lose situation for him. If she went through, he wins. Since she didn't, he still wins.

I don't know. This makes him look bad, seeing how there's only been 7 justices that have withdrawn, ever.

Kind of disappointed though. Any of you guys seen Mier's blog?

well the republicans will vote for whoever he nominates next to show they are still behind him. This won't happen again. This is why it's scary and too early to be cheering for anything.

That's a joke. That's got to be a joke. If that is what a high ranking public official thinks is acting appropriately, online or off, then we are screwed.

Everyone has an inner child. Usually it comes out over the internet. ;)

    its not a win-win, its a lose-lose-lost.

lose for bush because she is a prized loyal subject.
lose for social conservatives because the backlash might just sink their cause.
lost for the democrats since they never had the balls to fight to begin with.

the simple fact that bush's nominee did not publicly proclaim that she would vote to overturn roe vs wade sealed her fate...it seems to me that social conservatives want a theocratic united states overnight and are willing to declare war on the constitution, the republic, and everything else....harriet miers is nothing but cannon fodder.

As joyous as it is, no political discussions are allowed. We have been down this road before.
