First Earthquake for you huh? Ain't they fun? Biggest one I've even been in was the 6.6 1994 Northridge quake. At the time I lived within 10 miles of the epicenter. Man, that was fun. Our house got trashed (suprisingly there was very little damage to anyting though.) We got to live like refugees for two days, camping in the backyard because the lights were out and my parents were afraid to sleep indoors for some reason.
The BBC are saying that people have reported aftershocks as far North West as Dumfries & Galloway and North as far as Aberdeen. How I missed it South of West of Aberdeen I have no idea. I am trying to imagine the tabloid headlines this morning "The Night the Earth moved!" in the Sun with mock images of a naked woman falling out of bed, her nightwear being shaken off her! No names mentioned (as not necessary), but the usual suspect tabloid will probably have "New hypothesis 'Was Diana's car shaken into pillar by Earthquake?'" According to BBC News it was 5.3 (provided by British Geological Survey).
We felt it here in the West Mids, not much, but a bit My Wifey thought it was me pissing about shaking the bed at first Best quake was the dudley one in 2002 as we were only a few miles from that one!
They are at it right now. Someone got onto the houses of parliament roof. I mean sky news is got another hard on not that someones having it off on the roof. lol
You must be watching totally different news to me or the story has changed since you posted as it would appear to be a protest against the development of Heathrow Airport. The banners all say 'No to new runway' etc. Who's having it off? "We are here on a protest against the capitalist expansion or our green and pleasant land. We want the government to take note of the damage to the environment and the noise pollution issues faced by the whole of London due to increased air traffic....whilst we are here, do you fancy one?"
If this is the sum total of the damage caused by 5.3 on the RS in the UK... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/7266480.stm ...then we are lucky! I am thinking 'Kobe' right now. How would anyone in this country cope with something like that I wonder?
Yeah i'm currently down in Lancashire (my fiancees house) i slept through it, which is unusal for me as i get woke up very easy... Apparently, it could be felt here but it wasn't exactlly super strong. I got a phone call from my mum at a little turned one, saying they had all been woke up by an earth quake, apparently the whole house was shaking real bad and things were rattling to death, this was next door to sheffield really, based in Barnsley. Apparently there is no real damage around the small estate, but near by there has been some damage to peoples homes, i guess we got lucky on that one.
LOL buttfucked by a ghost ? I just cracked up with laughter over that. Anyway an earthquake is natural, but having workers working on your apartment, and has a service lift in front of your fucking window over a period of 3+ months, and they are regularly going up and down every day. Then you get aggitated. And thinks, I would rather have one earthquake than many rumbles from the damn service lift every day , back then. But now I have a new balcony thanks to their "fucking great work". And I am over it, and there is no lift outside, but damn it sucked having them there.
Here in Sheffield too, though I only felt a slight shaking and nothing fell over (apart from my bong...maybe I left it strewn accross the floor...) The building was shaking for a couple of minutes after though. Only damage from the incident was my loss of sleep after hearing every bugger on the street getting up and shouting out of their windows at the top of their voices "DID YOU FEEL THAT!". Sheffield steel in the girders for you
It's apparently quite common for damage to buildings closer to the epicenter to be minimal. One of those strange facts.
