Virtual Hydlide was released in Japan and PAL land (Maybe US too). It wasa great idea and far too ahead of it's time. The main killer was the frame rate of something like 20fps. Graphics for the time were actually pretty but that frame rate really did kill the game. Oh, the controls were a bit dodgy as was the camera at times. But what would you expect? This was the first game of it's type, EVER! 3D action RPGs have come a very long way since then. Actually, if you play through Virtual Hydlide some of the later levels are pretty impressive from a design point of view. It's just a shame that T&E Soft used their Golf Game engine instead of making a new one. Yakumo
*Splutters out coffee* Really? Wow! You learn something new everyday - certainly explains a lot ^^~ To be honest after the nasty reviews it got over here I never bothered with it. I suppose now it's dirt cheap it might be interesting to look at for the reasons you mentioned, I find that hindsight can put a different perspective on these things and make you appreciate good ideas badly done, even if the game itself is lacklustre.
Virtual Hydlide... oh man... Its something between "far too ahead of its time" and "crap". I remember watching at those preview screenshots back in the mid 90´s and they looked amazing! Definitely a "must try" for every History-interested Saturn owner.
I lol'd at the chuck norris joke at the end... I didn't realize that norris jokes were that old... :icon_bigg
