I was wondering if anyone here had any info or good sites to check out about the Game Boy mobile phone adaptor. I've been searching around for info on this for a while. I've read that it gave limited internet access to a few Nintendo sites. Anyone know what these were? I'd also love to hear from anyone who ever used the system.
I think it was a 3rd party product, it let you read POP3 mails and reveive faxes or something. I think it was made by Datel or Logic3, one of those lot, but I don't think it was official, well not the one I am thinking of anyway.
I remember one being revealed, possibly at either spaceworld 00 or 01. Official nintendo product I believe. I remember it was to be used with pokemon crystal, But i can't remember ever hearing of it again. It connected via the GBCs link port to the phone, and only a few japanese models were announced as being supported
There were two I blieve. Both only in japan. I know there was an early mobile adapter for the GBC to connect certain games online. There also was one made for the GBA to play some games online. It only exsisted around launch time and died out quite fast. See Chu Chu Rocket GBA (J) or Advance Rally (J) (? not sure if this is the right one). Both games suported the GB Link cell phone cable. Ermm actualy later i'll go dig though my box for the chu chu rocket box & manual. I hope this is the one you were refering to.
The one used for the gba games was the same one made for gbc. Mario kart & silent hill used it as well.
You could actually play online mariokart on the GBA via this system in real time? Or just exchange stats?
I though a revision was made because GBA & GBC port are not exactly the same. When in GBA mode it uses a different voltage then when in GBC mode.
I actually own the Mobile System Adaptor for the GBC. I saw it in a game shop for like 200 yen, so I thought 'what the hell' and picked it up. It comes with a GBC cart that stores your cellphone's details and your personal information for setting up an account with a certain phone provider. Since I already had a phone, I connected mine to the GBC through the adaptor and tried dialing into the servers or whatever. It couldn't connect to anything, unsurprisingly. This was in 2003 or so, and I think I remember reading Nintendo discontinued the service in 2001. I don't think the mobile adaptor was a success. The thing looked interesting, anyway. At the time, it would have been useful, providing a colour screen and menu to cellphones that were black & white only. The user could send & write e-mails using the GameBoy. I don't know what could be done with other games, like Mobile Golf (GBC or GBA??), but I'm sure it didn't have realtime competitive play.
