I installed a universal version 3 mod chip in a model 1 Sega Saturn following the instructions completely and it has screwed up the Saturn. I have the same mod chip installed in another Sega Saturn model 2 and it has no problems. The sound is muffled and has a loud hissing sound to it. When it goes to the cd menu I get to red spheres. I have uninstalled the mod chip and I get the same results
Looks like the chip fried your system. That, or an improper chip install messed with the motherboard.
I'd say it is the first one. Since this model 1 is more like a model 2. The cd rom cable is 21 pin, instead of the 21 pin. I have the same mod chip installed in another Sega Saturn a model and have no problems with that one.
I didn't mention this but it doesn't check too see if the disc lid is closed or not as well. Double checked the cables. Which were connected and checked again. Same result as mentioned above.
I had that same problem, but I figured out that my cables were put in the wrong way nonetheless my double checking.
Double checked cables and tried different laser as well. Lasers don't emit red light.I know the lasers are good. One of them is brand new.
Sadly I've seen plenty. But they were the late model with "white stripe" JVC drive and 68EC000 CPU integrated inside of sound chip. I have to agree, that I've never seen early model damaged by modchip. Modchip blows but console is unharmed once chip disconnected...
