    Hi,

    I recently received a Modbo 4.0 v1.99 by accident (ordered v1.93 :eek:ffended:).
So I wondered if there is a way to up-/downgrade the firmware to v1.93?
Afaik the Modbo Team added a feature at one point to update the firmware, but I don't know if they ever released an update.
I also saw that the HDCombo thingy for Slim PS2 are based around a Modbo 4.0 and actually come with an update disc, that updates the firmware from v1.93 to "v2.0 HDCombo Edition".
Maybe we can use that disc to fuzz around with v1.99+ Modbos and get them down to v1.93 ... hardware wise they all look the same, so it's gotta be a software thing.

    Regards,
    iCEQB

What you've got is 99.9% likely to be a clone at this point and best I can tell there is no way to change the firmware. I want to say I tried to do so once but the updater failed.

Assuming the chip itself isn't locked I suppose you could wire it up for reprogramming from a stand alone programmer but even then the official firmware may need to be modified to run on the clone hardware.

To be fair, all modbos are clones.

What are the benefits of downgrading/upgrading? I tought 1.93 was the last official release of the Matrix Infinity firmware (Modbo and other clones are based on this chip). I have 1.93 Modbo760 (clone for sure) and I can play every games I want without any hickup. I briefly checked if it was updatable but finally settled to leave it that way since it was already working perfectly.

So if your chip is already working great I would suggest to leave it that way. If not well, you might find that it could be cheaper and less time-consuming to simply buy another chip from another supplier. I got mine for less than 5$ including shipping., and it wasn't even the cheapest one.

The benefit of downgrading a v1.99 Modbo is to bring it to v1.93 ... and I shit you not buddy ... it's a GREAT benefit ;)

I didn't knew there was such a big difference between those 2 versions! Over at PSX-Scene, I was told that 1.99 was a hacked version of 1.93 that introduced nothing new except visual changes on the setting menu and other things. Also it lacked the code to brick clones Matrix Infinity's team was adding to their code.

Is the media and/or game compatibility is that different?
