    Hi All,

I am hoping it is just a dead mod chip but I have been having issues getting any sort of function out of my Mobo 5. I am assuming as it is a Matrix clone I should some sort of splash screen when turning the console on but nothing. Circle and Triangle don't open up the mod menu and pause doesn't show "Disabled"

I also now can't load retail games, it just comes up saying insert a Playstation 2 Disc.

Taken the mod out and re-wired and checked continuity twice and it all seems fine wiring wise. Made sure there are no bridges on the ICs when I soldered some wire to them.

The diagram I used didn't have the "H" pad wired up but I then found another forum post with another user that was having issues and he found another diagram that was the exact same apart from the addition of the "H" wire.

Just doing a bit more digging in the last few minutes, there are a few diagrams for the official older Matrix chip for PS2 PAL V7 that don't use the "H" or "G" pad on the rear of the PS2 board only "I" is it worth trying it with just the "I" pad soldered ?

Anyone have any ideas on what I can check / test before I buy another chip ?

This was the first diagram I used with G and I

This is the one that includes "H" but also a "Z" that my chip doesn't have and I think I have just noticed a very subtle change with the "Y" location, are these two pads linked (at work so can't get the multi-meter out)

This is the one just showing the "I" pad being used with an official matrix mod chip

    Thanks

Not sure what else to tell you other than your install is bad. It's not uncommon to not have them work the first time as they are difficult for most people to install. Have you installed PS2 modchips before? After removing the chip, does the PS2 function fine?

    Also this may help:

"If the matrix logo is showing at startup, then your "M, N, O, P, Q, T, U, V, R, W, CX, 3.3v and GND" Points are working perfectly. SX is for PS1 backup/import support, if it boots PS1 backups and/or imports then that point is working. "Y" is for Region Free DVD Playback, if it boots an out of region movie then your ok for that point. "A G H I B" are the PS2 backup/import support points so if its not booting up your PS2 backups and/or imports, i would check/rework those."

So even without point H, you should still be getting a splash logo which would indicate that your chip is installed correctly.

    And more diagrams:

Hey man, all sorted. Install was fine, mod chip was DOA. Took my working one apart and dropped it in and it worked first time.

Got the hot air station and a bit of flux on the Modbo to make sure everything was making contact with the traces etc and that sorted it. Up and running now.

    Cheers
