There's 10000 units with the new mechacon which blocks DVD player 1.00. Those came with the old 1.00 rom but had a 1.01 Utility disc on the box with them. ;)

I had one of those at some point. I no longer have it.

I thought that you mentioned once that the v1.01 SCPH-10000 units did not block the DVD Player v1.00? Does this mean that I was either mistaken? Or were there really SCPH-10000 units with newer boot ROMs, but lacked this restriction?

    I have 3 units:
    SCPH-10000 v1.00 <- DVD player v1.00
SCPH-10000 v1.01 <- No disc. Presumed to be DVD Player v1.01, as it came with a memory card that had it.
    SCPH-15000 v1.01

Only the SCPH-15000 has a newer MECHACON. That doesn't mean that the SCPH-10000 with ROM v1.01 didn't have a newer firmware for its MECHACON, which I cannot verify because it's my unit that is totally dead.

Agreed. I installed one in a SCPH-39003 and the PSX fix didn't work at all and all of the options I could configure didn't actually seem to take effect. Also it didn't boot PlayStation games with copy protection properly and on certain games it wouldn't turn to NTSC, like Tekken 3. This is a PAL console install of course but it didn't seem like a very good chip at all.

It was the mechacon they modified. And because the issue with the DVD player 1.00 popped up in a sudden way, they certainly had no time to fix stuff up so the most logical way to fix it in a timely manner was what they did with the mechacon. Already sold consoles they dealt with through the discs recall programme. And that was it ...

I am just mentioning that the blocking of DVD player 1.00 is unrelated to the BOOT ROM version. At first I believed they were related but I eventually saw consoles with 1.00 BOOT ROM which would only accept DVD player 1.01 or newer. The mechacon on consoles which allow DVD player 1.00 are "CXP-101064" with FW revision "-605R".

Hmmmm, I'm kinda leaning towards chips that aren't too difficult to get a hold of (i.e ones that people are selling on the Marketplace). Thanks though!

Okay, so I should be going for a SCPH-30000 or SCPH-39000 with a Matrix Infinity chip then? Which model would be the best? Does anyone still have the firmware for the chip, since it looks like it's not on the Matrix website anymore.
