Since it's 2018 and all the original mod chip manufactures have stopped production does that mean that modchips you buy today most likely clones? Sorry if it's a newbie question but I was just wondering because EurAsia sell XenoGC for GameCube for example but production stopped along time ago so does mean they are selling clones? or do they just have a massive stock room full of these chips.

I'm currently working on a GameCube XenoGC Clone and having a PCB designed with ISP headers based on the supplied documentation of the GC-Forever wiki.

The xenos are all clones. But the source code is public and the design is extremely simple - so it makes little to no difference in any practical way.

Modbo are a clone of the matrix infinity anyway. I have a bunch of original ps2 chips, but no supplier - once they are gone, they are gone.

What IC does the original ps2 mod chip use? Could more be produced or is the source code unavailable?

Thanks for the explanation. I always wondered what those Modbo chips were. I wonder who makes these clones. The cloners need to make some wiikey fusion clones but have heard that the firmware is encrypted or something.

It's crazy how cheap the clones have gotten lately. You can even get them on eBay nowadays for only a few dollars each. I don't remember being able to find any modchips on eBay a couple years ago.

Clones are practically the only option when it buying modchips unless you know someone who has originals. Not sure about the quality of them though but for a couple of bucks what could go wrong.

Modbos are good, long as you get "genuine" ones (I know, how crazy the cloned have been cloned).

Alsl, they did clone the wii key fusion - it was the wasp. But the original chip used is expensive, so they stopped being produced.

Just because it's a clone doesn't inherently mean it's bad. There's good clones and there's bad clones.

Just curious, why are you designing a PCB for the Xeno? Why does it need an ISP header when you can preflash it with the latest firmware?

I didn't say clones were bad I'm just saying that they can be questionable quality, like is there even any quality control in place, even though It's basically just a bunch of ICs and components on a PCB. I'm designing a PCB for the Xeno because if you just use the chip and soldering the components directly to the pins It's looks like a mess and It's also a fun project. I'm putting a ISP header in because then you can flash the chip with a $3 programmer of ebay and also I might be releasing this modchip clone.

Yeah I definitely made one of those ugly looking homemade Xenos "back in the day" (see: a few years ago). Projects are fun! I'd be curious to see how yours looks when it's done.

I should have my Xeno clone released next month. I also might open my own pre-modded console shop due to being that I like to solder alot and premodded consoles are somewhat costly. For example. If I opened a shop on this forum A set price for a premodded PS1 should be about £20 or $25 as It's a simple < 8 wire mod. Plus I might also well make use of my soldering skills(2 IPC certificates) and overkill soldering iron(JBC).

Doesn't make much sense to invest time in releasing a xeno clone.

They are readily available and cheap.
