I used to have a modded model 2 Japanese Saturn I bought from the net but sold that a couple of years ago. I bought a Saturn last week and I have just installed the mod chip(consolegoods) into my 20 pin mk1 Saturn (PAL). Started it up and it read a normal disc, tried a burned game on CD-R and it simply said 'game disc unsuitable for this system' I was confident I had installed the chip correctly so tried another burned game and it worked, since I have a few burned games from a few years ago I tried them all and it would only read one. One of the games it wouldn't run was the 718 xtreme beta that I know 100% worked on my previous chipped Saturn as that's the main reason I bought it. All the games are burned onto the same brand CD-R (memorex) and I'm pretty certain I burned them all the same way. Is there any random reason this maybe happening? Im going to re burn some of the games and try but wanted to ask here too.
Just tried the 718 beta with the action replay plugged in (rather than the normal memory card) and it worked - thanks for that Honestly thought that with the mod chip it made it region free too.
saturn mod chips only allow backed up games to be played, for region free you need to throw in a region free bios chip or use an action replay (i think bios chip is best option as it leaves cart slot free for backup memory or ram cart)
Hands down the best especially since it doesn't mess up your cartridge slot like an Action Replay does/will/might. Only downside is that the chip will eventually lose it's programming at some point in the future (>15 years).
If you're just using burned copies the easiest solution is just to patch your images with the SRP tool: http://madroms.satakore.com/#SRP. This leaves your cartridge slot free if you like to swap different carts in and out. Personally I like to keep my 4-in-1 plugged in, mainly for ram expansion usage, my old saturn had a fussy slot that would randomly ignore cartridges, I always figured it was from wear and tear. I just have to remember to copy important saves from the on-board memory to the AR backup from time to time.
Yeah currently using an action replay - good job they are also a memory card! my Saturn also has a fussy cartridge slot - only recognises cartridges after around 4 times, so I'm going to leave the action replay in - might do the bios at a later date. As for patching the images. - that's also a good idea and I'll try it. thanks for the replies
