    Hi,

I recently bought a modded Xbox locally off a classified ad, it has a mod with a control board stuck to the front of the console with 3 switches labelled "Enable/Disable", "Protect/Unprotect" and "Bank 1/Bank 2". It would seem to be an xecutor mod or something (I know nothing about Xbox mods). It doesn't matter which Bank I choose when booting the console, I get Avalaunch (the same version) either way - I can only assume the same BIOS was flashed onto both banks?

The console seems to work fine, and will play backups. However, I tried last night to make an FTP connection to it with my PC but the original owner seems to have changed the username/password so I can no longer log in (I have contacted him already - he doesn't remember them). I have looked for hours online as to how I can reset the FTP settings, but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing from within the xbox.

My only idea to remedy the problem would be to burn a default copy of the avalaunch.xml file onto a disc, then copy it over the one on the xbox using the file manager on the custom dash. Would this be a clever way of doing it? I am loathe to try it without asking, as I am not confident I can fix any problem that I ham-fistedly introduce to the mix.

Does anyone have a good idea of how to do it?

I will also post some pics of the console and dash tonight, if it's helpful.

    Thanks!

Stick a complete copy of Avalaunch (or evo-x or whatever, as long as it has an ftp server), with a known ftp password, on a disc and boot from that. Now you can ftp in and grab the xml used by the Avalaunch on the HDD, and read/edit that password without worrying about any other possibly customized stuff in there.

Not positive but try holding down the white button on the controller when powering up the console. You may or may not get to another settings screen. If you get in there be careful with what you change.

OK, thanks :) I will try this tonight, I think I have found a guide on how to do it online.

I will also try this, I'll let you know what I get.

    Thanks for the input, guys.

On mine, powering the console on using the eject button took me to the modchip menu. That was with a Xenium chip but it may have been different on the chip that the OP has. From the sounds of it, that chip is an Xecuter2 or Xecuter3 as those did come with the fancier external boards and features.

Xecuter 3 has it's own setup menu when you hold down the white button on startup. Xecuter 2 uses a text file on the Xbox HDD. Not sure about other modchips?
Default FTP settings for the Xbox are username: xbox, password: xbox, port: 21. The Host IP address should be displayed in Avalaunch, it might also have the username & password hidden in the menu somewhere? Or an option to change them?
Default IP: 192.168.0.?? the last two number can be anything really?

The one I had was a Xenium ICE and that used the Eject button to bypass the bios and boot straight to the chip EEPROM menu. I actually still have the chip because I took out of my old v1.1 Xbox was when I sold it. I just don't have an Xbox to put it in anymore.

I had a video explaining all this.

    Notice how I said "HAD".

This ^ is the fool proof method. Stick to this if you have trouble.

UPDATE - It worked! Using some tutorial I found online to burn the Evo-X disc, I managed to get an FTP connection with my PC :) Indeed, the old owner had changed the password, so I reset it and now it works from the Avalaunch dash that is on the harddrive.

Just a small addition - using FlashFXP it will connect easily, but with FileZilla I had to change the encryption level otherwise it still wouldn't let me log in... Anyway, I'm happy.

What you're saying now actually rings a bell. Some of the dash auto installers back in the day used to use a custom password like "ilovexbox-scene" or some shit. It was both pointless and annoying.

Yeah, the password set on my machine was something like "CEXBOX", so that's again probably an example of the dash installer setting up a non-default password. Very irritating.

If memory serves the password was just saved in plain text in a cfg file but you would need some way of amending or replacing that file to change it.

Correct, on my machine it was in the Avalaunch.xml file in the C drive. But I had to boot into Evo-X with a bootdisc to enable FTP so I could edit the file as there doesn't seem to be a way of editing that file within Avalaunch itself.

Yeah I remember doing exactly what you did back in the day after I used a Slayer's disc to install evo-X. For a while I was booting into an Avalaunch dash from a CD everytime I needed to connect to the FTP.

I did look at getting an original Xbox just recently as I still have my old chip lying around but I just don't think that I would use it and I would need to find the right pinheader from somewhere.

I had the exact same problem, and my solution was to run XBMC on it.. It will launch its own ftp-server, and then I used that ftp (which is more stable anyway) to transfer what I needed over to the box. You can also then edit the settings on the Avalaunch ftp as well by editing the xml.

    "X3" is the password for excuter 3 modchips just saying :-D;
Avalaunch is nice dash, I Used it a lot, also back in the days i modded my avalanch to visit xbins chat
so that way i was always logged in to the irc and i had ftp access to xbins server directly from avalanch.
