Hey folks, this weekend I managed to successfully softmod my original XBox, link it to my FTP protocol, extract game files from an ISO, send it to the XBox HDD, and load the game from there.

All in all pretty happy with both the ease of this (although information on iso extraction via Ubuntu was a bit confusing at times), and looks like I'm well on my way.

However the HDD seems a little slow on video. My tester ISO was a small one - World Championship Snooker 04, and upon loading the credits/videos were slow (you know, the ones saying 'Codemasters presents' and the like).

I haven't swapped out the HDD for a larger one yet so it's still the original 5GB one, but is normal, temporary, or something that will be sorted with a larger, faster HDD?

    Thanks :)

The original hard drives aren't the fastest things around, they weren't designed for having a lot of data being pulled from them constantly like when your loading a game. When you upgrade the drive you will see some better speeds. If you really want to max out your read speeds you need to get a new IDE cable. A 36" 80 wire IDE cable will speed you up a decent amount.
