Speaking of which, why does the ntsc GC not support rgb SCART? Many consoles in the past (mega drive, SNES, Saturn etc) supported it despite SCART not being a thing in the US. Did Nintendo intentionally prevent the ntsc GC from being able to use SCART or did those previous consoles I mentioned have extra cost put into them for a feature that wouldn't be used?

Nintendo used two slightly different version DACs in the PAL and NTSC Gamecube. The DAC for NTSC Gamecube has Chroma, Luma and CVBS output and the DAC for PAL Gamecubes has RGB and CVBS output.

I'm not sure why they didn't add RGB output to the NTSC DAC as RGB was a thing in Japan as far as I'm aware. I could imagine that they probably expected people to buy the component cable instead and that RGB was an after thought in the PAL DAC due to European TV sets not generally having component inputs at that point in time, thus the component cable was not released in Europe.

Previous US consoles probably had RGB output as a consequence of them originally being designed and released for the Japanese market.

1st party console RGB support was short lived in Japan. SNES, Saturn, Playstation, and Neo Geo had cables.
Systems like Genesis and Dreamcast didn't.

Probably short lived because not enough people bought the cables? Same reason why Nintendo removed the digital port from the Gamecube.

And yet all you need to get RGB on the Genesis/Mega Drive is a SCART cable. Did Sega really never make any official cables for it?

They did in Europe I believe, perhaps only in France (like the SNES SCART lead)? Spotted them on eBay before.

Wow, that must be the one time in history that a foreign game company did something with the PAL region in mind!

They probably left in it anticipating PAL consoles. Genesis was based upon Master System, which already had RGB.

With the Master System only really finding success in Europe, thats probably more a case of Sega knowing which side it's bread is buttered on :p
