The original Xbox had adapters that allowed you to connect to a TV using S-video cables or component cables.

Sony had a similar device for the PS1 and PS2, only it also had a multi-out port at the end.

I have three of those PlayStation adapters and the S-video version for Xbox. This may some like an unusual question, but is it possible to modify these to work with a PAL Wii?

I use a Lenkeng HDMI adapter that actually upscales the component signal to 1080p. It works for GameCube games and Wii games. But certain Virtual Console games don't support the Component Interlace Mode and I just get an unsupported format error message. Some N64 VC games have combing artifacts too. My only solution has been to swap the adapter with composite or RGB SCART cables, but it's becoming extremely tedious. If not for the fact that the TurboGrafx VC games support 480p over HDMI adapter, I'd just stick with RGB SCART.

Would it be possible to modify one of these adapters so I can use the Wii HDMI adapter for most games and the breakout for problem games?

What adapter are you using now? One of those "Wii 2 HDMI" adapters?

Pal Wiis do not have S-Video out; also those adapter and/or your TV set probably do not support that resolution. Modding the cables would be useless.

They do support composite and RGB though.

If modifying these adapters wouldn't work, is there any way to force Virtual Console games to output at 480p?
