In this video someone modded a Wii Mini with Gamecube ports and booted a Gamecube game, I was wondering how difficult it would be to add the Gamecube ports from a standard Wii to the newer Wii model right before Wii Mini? Has anyone attempted this before? Thanks.
I saw it once and well it's not really more complicated than the solution above, but the case isn't designed to have them in the first place so don't expect it to be as "clean" as on a normal Wii
In that vid its not a wii mini, just a normal wii he modded for gamecube support. It looks like a pain in the ass to do and plus wii's are pretty cheap now.
Could be an interesting project, but as others have said used Wii's are so cheap these days (my last one was $50 and that was over a year ago) so maybe not worth it.
It's a real pain in the ass to do this mod and make it look nice, but the wii mini would actually be perfect for gamecube and wii games, if you don't need Wi-Fi
Well, perhaps a motive behind this is that the pre-Mini Wiis (the ones without GCN support) supposedly have improved component video from the original Wiis. No clue if that extends to GCN titles, but if that's the case, it's potentially a cheaper alternative to GCN component/D-terminal cable. No clue about the true motive here; I'm just spit-balling.
Bingo. That's actually what I was interested in. Haha. Still, I haven't seen solid proof that it does have improved component, although that was my reasoning.
It will happen maybe when it's out, afterall they managed to use the Wii U Pro controller on the vWii it could be complicated tho because Nintendo said it will only be compatible for Smash on WiiU, it must use an all new protocol
