So I've made this simple mod to my console: https://s18.postimg.org/yd0gv652x/bridge.jpg
I have bridge that points and I have remove the plastic from the lid button to not push the button.
For example I can play games without the lid closed.
In time it is dangerous for the console with this mod?
    Thanks!

it might make the laser die out sooner rather than later since itll be constantly moving about/seeking for discs all the time but thats about it i guess

Why would it wear it out? It does exactly the same when the lid is closed (I.e most the time the console is on).

It seeks once, then stops. You will need to power cycle the console if you insert a disc, precisely because it doesn't constantly seek.

I don't know why you would want to do this mod though. Multi disc games won't work. If you boot without game, you need to power cycle the console etc. Seems like effort for no gain, unless the original switch is damaged.

have to agree with the above, why would you want the lid to act as permanently closed? if the original switch is damaged surely you can replace it? (the amount of original damaged PlayStation consoles knocking around you can steal bits from is easily in the thousands) - just seems like you would be losing more than your gaining?

    just my 2p

he may use a game enhancer to load backups, but a spring or blue tac maybe more appropriate if that was the case, if not then pretty pointless.

Yeah, spring or blu tack in that case. If you really want to solder something - add in a switch so you can enable and disable this behaviour?

I've modded it because the switch was damage and I don't have a replacement for the moment.
Didn't know about multi disc games will not work with this mod.
I saw that in time this switch will worn out and sometime the problem with no disc will appear,
Thank you everyone for helping me!

By the way, why Sony used pressure switch instead of on/off switch for the lid system?
Is there any explanation? Because that kind of switch will worn out in time...
Some good example if the switch is not push enough then DRE can appear or if is worn out the switch must be pushed all the way. I saw this problem on one console of my friend. He only played games with the console cover opened because the switch was worn out and needed to be pushed all the way to activate the laser to read the discs. He didn't know that you can bridge that points.
    Thanks!

i was under the impression that doing things like leaving the lid open whilst having the switch taped will kill the laser quicker, guess not

Kappa think about when the lid is closed on PSone, if you don't have a disc inside, the laser will always be active as Bad_Ad84 said :)
The button you push to open the lid, inside have a round plastic that push the switch when you close the lid.
