Hey I have few question about modding the consoles. 1) Wi've seen people painted their Nintendo. DO you know what kind of paint spray is it? 2) Is there a way to get rid of the yellowing? My SNES have yellow from ages. Any clue to clean it up? thanks
1. Some sort of spray paint for plastics. Try Krylon...Fusion...I think it is...in the US. 2. Its not going to happen.
About the first question, I'm modding some NESs ATM and I've tried spray painting on similar plastic surfaces. I always prepare first the surface with sandpaper, so the paint will stay on the surface for a longer period and there won't be any dirt remaining on it. Then I apply 2 or more layers of plastic spray paint and then I apply a layer of silicone spray paint to add bright and fix the paint on the surface. I didn't apply on a NES yet (I'm not decided which color design is the appropiate), but I tested it on different plastic surfaces and worked well. Good luck and send pics when it's done!
Consoles go yellow as the plastic oxidises, there isn't much you can do except for keeping it locked in an airtight container in the dark... You can get rid of the top layer of oxidisation by using Contact cleaner and rubbing, but this effectively burns off the top layer so you get a cleaner surface under it but then you'll get rid of anything else on it... :/ I used it to turn PC Engine joypads from Yellow to white again. But too much and you'll burn large chunks off and it'll look crap.
Best just to dissassemble the top and spray it lightly with the right color Krylon Fusion paint. (After cleaning it of course). This paint will not come off, period. You'll probably find it in a hardware store.
