So, I found a Model 1 Genesis and Sega CD at a thrift store. So far, I did an A/V Mod since the sound wasn't working through RF. The Sega CD worked fine, but the case was just a mess. I took the case apart and cleaned it up.

Anyway, I put the Sega CD back together, connected the Genesis to it, and powered it on. Now, the BIOS screen shows some glitching in the background (almost looks like snow, but just in the frame with the flying logo) and it won't read discs anymore. It'll keep opening the drive with a disc in it, no spin-up or anything. The ACCESS light blinks constantly.

As far as I know, I put it back together properly, shielding all in place. I don't see any major damage to the ribbon cables other than the little crimp I put on the sides of them trying to get the cable in and out of the socket.

Any hints to solve this? Could all the glitching be from the Genesis itself rather than the Sega CD? Any help appreciated.

My saturn had the same kinda problem, read discs FINE then out the blue no spin up or anything, apparently the BAM chip on the underside had died or something, might want to check if that's the problem with yours.

I kinda figured out my disc read problem. It seems like there was too much pressure on the magnetic spindle that holds the disc in place while it's spinning. I just repositioned the screws just slightly, and VOILA! It works again.

I'm not sure why I'm having those graphic anomalies though. I've cleaned out the connector(s) and seem to still have that problem. It only started happening after I A/V modded it. Genesis games work just fine, even the Sega CD disc that has 4 Genesis games on it; the game selection menu is screwy but when the game loads, it's fine.

Any thoughts on what's going on?

bUmPdate: I decided to try using my Model 2 Genesis on the Model 1 Sega CD. It turns out that the glitches are gone. So I'm narrowing it down to the Model 1 Genesis that's giving me the glitching problem. Any suggestions?

get your multi meter out set it on continuity and check your connections
its quite possible there could be a damaged cap or resistor also so check the caps and resistors as well

Connections are good from the board to the RCA jacks that I installed. I get the same glitches through RF, too...In fact, the whole reason I did the A/V mod was because audio wasn't working through RF, and I wasn't gonna invest in a special cable for it.

I'll double check the caps though. FWIW, the Genesis board version is V7.

then likely a fuse is blown or a resistor is damaged see if you can find pictures for the most common fuse locations and replace them
there is one VERY common fuse the blows in the gen/MD cd

only other thing i can think of is the PPU is damaged ( video processor )
    in the gen/MD

I'd like to think it's the video processor. See, when playing regular Genesis games, everything is fine. Games play with no glitching whatsoever. Attach it to the Sega CD, and just the Sega CD games act wonky.

Just for fun, I popped in the Sega Classics collection disc that I got with my model 2 from back in the day. The game select menu has those glitching, but when the game finally loads (ie: Streets of Rage from the disc), the gameplay is fine; no glitching whatsoever. Just the Sega CD games proper glitch out.

Should I still check the fuses? Again, I have a V7 board in the Genesis. I'm kinda at a loss here.
