So, I just dug out my old genesis/32x from many years of being packed away. I hooked it all up and it started right up, but I bumped it and it shut off. I noticed the DC-in was loose, and also A and B were not working on either of my controllers in the player 1 controller port. So I did a reflow on the middle DC solder point and all of the player 1 solder points. I tried putting in a game before i put it all back together.. it got to the first screen but would not get to the title screen of any game. I thought maybe i needed to retension the pins, so I did that, and I got the same results. So I just put everything all back together, giving up on it for the night, but I thought I'd plug in the 32x just to see if it worked. Put in a 32x game and got nothing at all. Put in a Genesis game and it got to the title screen and froze a few times. Restarted and pressed start real quick when it got to the title screen and it worked, but now games are preforming inputs that I'm not doing, All of the buttons on the controller work now though. Any thoughts? Did I mess up soldering? Please help :(

UPDATE: I got to play the first level and a half of Sonic 1, and then it froze up.

32x is known to have issue. Clean the cart connector, ALL of them, and also open the 32x up and make sure the 2 fat white ribbon cables are seated in good. They get loose over time.

Also when you opened the Genesis up, did you check for bad or leaky caps? It could cause unreliable game play you have experienced if there's flaky cap in the power regulator section.

Lastly, original or cheap aftermarket AC adapters? They should be putting out no less than 9v DC under load. If it's dipping low under load, it may be bad. Checking the power supply while it's not connected may give up around 12-15v DC, this is normal and is not the right way to check for correct voltage.

Thanks for your reply wilykat. I'll check it out tomorrow. I don't think the issue is with the 32x, but I'll open it up and poke around anyway just to be on the safe side.

UPDATE: I took the Genesis back apart. I put a little more solder on the dc-in, bent the cartridge slot pins inward a bit more, and bent a capacitor up because it looked like it was touching a jumper. All my games work on the Genesis now except Road Rash 2, which oddly enough works when the 32X is hooked up. 32X games are working now as well, so I'll call that a win. :D
