Hi, my flat mate is looking at getting a twin daytona USA 2 machine, what would be involved in getting scud race/super gt working on this? Is it an easy swap out to change between games?
Sorry but what parts do I need? I've been reading up and I see there is the step 1.5 CPU board for scud race etc. do I need to get CPU board, video board, rom board etc or can some parts from daytona 2 work without needing parts.
I assumed you had complete board sets and again, I don't deal with FFS on my setups so I don't have details on them. There's no sane reason to even attempt to convert a Daytona 2 board into Scud Race. You'd spend more money on all of the different parts required than on just an original board.
Well we will have complete daytona 2 machine, but we love scud race as well and it's impossible to get scud race machine where I live so it's our only option. do I need to get all the parts such as step 1.5 CPU, video board, rom board? What else would I need?
What the heck. Why would you want to replace that? Seeing as both games are Model 3 it might be enough to burn roms though, not sure about driver boards. FFB will probably not work after all (Though, I know nothing about that SEGA generations). Probably just cheaper to build a new PC and run Supermodel on that (If you are fine with emulation quality).
Money isn't the issue guys, I'm happy to spend. However, we live in New Zealand and arcade machines are hard to get. We would just love info on what we need to have scud race working on daytona 2 machine.
Go to eBay and get a complete board because you have to acquire almost every single part on the PCB to make a Scud Race from a Daytona 2. It just doesn't make sense. It's like having a Lamborghini and asking what it'll take to convert it to a Porsche.
What about sega rally 2? Since I know step 2.0 and 2.1 are compatible with each other, would sega rally 2 work easily? Is it as simple as replacing the rom boards?
ROMs only. The mask ROMs will require 27C322 EPROMs which aren't cheap and you'll need about 30 of them if you want to do a conversion. Will also take forever to burn the ROMs unless you have some industrial programmer.
You also need the DSB1 MPEG boards if you want music in Scud Race. The power connector is different as D2 uses the newer DSB2 MPEG boards. Everything else is a straight swap if you have the complete gameboards. Force feedback will be working, but still feels like D2. You will not notice this if you don't know the original Scud Race ffb. Sega Rally 2 is just a ROM swap. You also need to change the drive board Rom to get FFB working, and the Roms on the MPEG boards for music..
