Pretty self explanatory I suppose. I always wanted to get my own lynx system and recently decided to spend the money for it and some of my favorite games. The collector in me all but forced me to get them CIB - which usually translated to NIB in shrinkwrap since the system and games are going on 25 years and the boxes are otherwise pretty hard to find now. The cartridges at the bottom are from the boxes pictured, the only loose cart I have is California Games which came with the lynx. The lynx's screen only has one bad pixel too.
What no Ninja Gaiden or Warbirds your slacking j/k. Nice collection you collect other handhelds as well or strictly Lynx.
Nah for handhelds it's just lynx for me. These days I find the atari arcade conversions and one off western style games more interesting than the paired down NES/Genesis stuff on the gameboy or game gear, and all those old franchise tie in games (disney movies, etc) that litter the gameboy and gg library. Rather than more lynx games, I think I'd like to get a jaguar to go with the lynx. But someone needs to buy my xbox in the marketplace to free up funds first
I love Zarlor, definitely in my top 3 for the Lynx. I'd love to play it 4 player, but that's a pipe dream as I know no one irl with a lynx. Zaku is cool and I love the art, but I find it harder to play than certain other shmups because of the small screen. There is less about dodging stuff you see coming, and more of memorization to avoid certain enemy and boss attacks. Also, unless you charge up your shots, you fire a little bullet a la megaman, but this little bullet appears to be so weak as to be useless for even killing small enemies - so there are certain things I would have loved to have changed about the game, but needless to say it stacks up really well with the other commercial lynx titles.
I was fortunate enough to play some 4 player back in the day. All boys boarding school so gaming was quite popular (among other things...)! Trouble was, even if I say so myself, I'm rather good at Zarlor (one of about 3 schmups I am good at), so took it all a bit seriously. My mates were rubbish hahaha. Must get back into it. If you're ever London way and fancy 2 player session... You know I've pretty much forgotten all that about Zaku. Played it for about a week at release, then on the shelf since. I recall not liking some of the music too much, but enjoyed the game generally. You should check out Electrocop as well. Epyx really did get the best out of the Lynx and this games shows it graphically etc. It gets panned a bit for lack of replay (and the door code waiting), but it's good fun just to mess around.
nice model 1 lynx an great start on your collection ,i have the model 2 lynx and no games lol..bought it broken bad caps have the kit ordered,,should look into getting the official case/bag for it.
The lynx 2 has a couple of weak points, the issue may not be the caps but the failure of an internal voltage regulator. If this piece fails, the cpu gets the full 9v from the batteries or AC adaptor and fries itself over time. See here for more info and other things that might be wrong with a lynx 2 http://atariage.com/forums/topic/99383-lynx-2-repair-help-needed-only-blank-screen/
Some nice Lynx games you have there I LOVE Zarlor Mercenary! I have four copies for ComLynxing. Went a bit nuts years ago (waaay before retro gaming became financially popular) and collected most of the games (CIB) in full sets - ie. 4/4 Zarlor Mercenaries, 6/6 Checkered Flags, 8/8 Slime Worlds, etc. Only ever play the Lynx nowadays when we get together at retro club meets or when we run a retro event. I love 2-3P Zarlor but find that in 4-P it gets a bit crowded (but the Backstabber weapon purchase is a MUST ; ) Also, siilar to wheelaa i am better at this game then my friends so its not as challenging as it could be. Where do you live dark? You should keep an eye out for gaming events close to your area. They may have retro gaming section that would have Lynxes for ComLynx play. That would be your best bet to try it out in multiplayer mode. Otherwise, do what i do, and make your friends buy Lynxes!
Someone needs to invent some kind of comlynx to pc serial/usb cable and software to comlynx through the internet.
On the topic of Zarlor Mercenary, check out this advertisement for lynx games, which appears to show a beta screenshot of Zarlor (I don't recognize the enemy or level graphics from any stage in the game) http://i.imgur.com/8jqUPSu.jpg
A friend of mine created some homebrew comlynx cables in a few hours, but that is just for the lynx itself. Having it for the PC/Mac so as to play online, now that would be great! Also, getting WLAN enabled on Lynx emulated games on PSP (and similar) would be AWESOME!!!
