If you were in the market for one (I know many are not), how much would a modified Sega Game Gear with a new LCD and S-Video/RGB out be worth to you?

I have given quotes to multiple people that were very interested in it and they all seem to be shocked at the price.

Looks very cool, but you would be looking at a pretty niche fan/ collector if you want to get as much as possible, I think most "general" fans/gamers/collectors wouldn't be looking to pay much more than for a standard gamegear, last time I checked a full working gamegear goes for around £20-30...... So in my non expert opinion about £40 or so would be most peoples limit unless you can find someone who wants it so bad they will pay more....but again that kind of someone will be harder to find

    good luck though

You are correct about it being niche, but if someone is looking to get this work done, you would certainly be looking at more than £40.

say £30 for console, £30 for modding (at least IMO) + materials.

Depending on if the OP has ordered the RGB out board from Tim (around £35 on its own) + LCD, you are easy looking at £100 not including the LCD kit.

Woah, I had no idea about that LCD mod... Nice.

The parts alone - GG not even included - seem to cost twice that amount, nevermind the work/time to install them.

edit: Only £30 markup for the mod, how so? Can you make do without a GGTV board these days (been a while since I really looked into GG mods)?

Having done this myself, the reduced screen size is unfortunate. Great for playing sms games though!

It would be a small market (but there) probably try to stick to your own area though as shipping would be a killer.

I think a lot of people would use a modded psp or the like.

Was this a reply to me?

£30 was labour costs, materials on top.

If you want to make money updating older systems, I would focus on the Nomad. I've seen a few Nomad LCD replacements and they look amazing.

More likely to get someone to pay for that, than a GG with a reduced screen size. Unless you can find an LCD that will let you scale the GG display to full screen, most average punters will consider the reduced image a defect.

I was curious about that reduced image. is that due to the mod as I have never seen GG reduce in size in normal game play

    Thanks for the input everyone.

rso: That link is showing an email from me. The parts alone cost just over $100 total and it took a good amount of time to figure out and do the mod (along with the GG cap replacement which sell for about $50 alone). In a later email to the same person I offered lower prices and it was still too much for him. It can be done without Tim's board but it is a lot more work.

omp: I don't like the reduced screen size either but the LCD I replaced looked awful. I prefer this to what was in it. Some of the original Game Gear LCDs look better than others (depending on the factory it was made in from what I gather).

hl718: I do a few console mods/projects on the side (Like the Nomad LCD upgrade) to help offset the cost of my retro gaming addiction. I thought there would be more interest in the modded Game Gear (More for the RGB out than the LCD upgrade) as I thought it was awesome.

silverfox0786: Yes that is due to the mod. As of now there are no ways around it.

I think I'll end up just breaking even on this one. I'll probably just focus on RGB/S-Video out with the rest of my GGTV2 boards/Game Gears and list them on eBay.
