Erm I think capcom shut down monster hunter servers not that long ago. I know MH2 is shut down (maybe they kept MH1 open a little longer). Either way not a great time to get into playing them.

Probably better in luck with the psp versions and xlink service to reroute adhoc to play online (suposetly there is a decent community there).

MS3 is in development but for Wii. No word on if the game is going to be online still.

A little more complicated, but not always in a good way. A team of four hunters (hmm...) would venture out into instanced field and dungeon areas (hmm...) and fight small groups of dinosaurs to bring back resources and treasure. Along the way, you have to cook your food and build ammunition and do all sorts of timing and reflex minigames. Like PSO, but with a fair bit of annoying RP to get in the way of killing things.

I enjoyed it, and I wish I had given the networked game more of a chance. Capcom was able to keep a server running and keep the cheating to a minimum, and not charge anybody for the trouble. On the other hand, the player base never got very big, so revenue and hacking wasn't actually a big deal for them.

Darn, it was one of those games I intended to try along with EQAdventures - I even got a NIC for my PS2, though I never installed it. I figured now I have a PS3 I might get it and trial it, but too late.

Does anyone know if the PSP game still works online?

PSP never had online. Just local Ad-hoc. Yet thanks to the wonders of technology, you can use a USB wi-fi dongle and reroute the connection with a software like xlink. There is supost to be a nice small comunity who plays via xlink (i dont have the game so i've not tried).
