that´s why it looked so awesome last night (I was pretty much looking at it all the time we drove up from Frankfurt ). A shame I didn´t take a pic -.-
It was big and bright. It looked like somebody was shining a bright spotlight. I could see some of the craters with my bare eyes. I took a video of it, as the clouds were moving around it. I might post it on youtube at some point.
I feel obliged to point out that this is just a mathematical curiosity. The moon's closest approach next year will be a mere 200 or so kilometers further away, or about a 0.1% difference. I'll let someone else do the math, but I'm pretty sure no human eye can tell the difference between last year's closest moon, this year's, and the next. http://www.fourmilab.ch/earthview/pacalc.html
It's been raining here for almost a full week. I'll go find a webcam version of it from Chile like I did the last lunar eclipse.
