In the newest AVGN, he says that you can have the song Thriller play in the Graveyard (3rd) Boss matches. I also found on youtube evidence of this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFO9Z1Yc-_A Question is, this guy uses roms. How can I now which version it is if I have the real game? (different label?) Thanks
whoa awesome find! I remembering testing the roms from different revs and didnt really notice any differences between them and between my cart...
is it only in the JPN version? Or are there versions floating in the US with like a different item number?
It's like the Super Shinobi situation. Only the first version so the game has real Godzilla, real batman, real Rambo and Spiderman. Later versions removed batman and even later Rambo and Godzilla as well. Only Spiderman remained. With Moonwalker from what I can gather, only version 1 has the Thriller tune which is the Japanese version. The PAL version is ver.2 which does not. I guess it is possible that a few Ver.1 sneaked through as Genesis carts before being replaced with Ver.2 yakumo
Why would they take Thriller out of the game? Certainly it can't be licensing issues... I mean, they got everything else of Micheal Jackson in there. --Zero
If I recall correctly, it was due to licensing issues, most likely due to the licensor wanting more money for the rights to Thriller due to its popularity at the time.
I bought both The Revenge of Shinobi and Moonwalker on Genesis when it released in the U.S. It contained the copyrighted contents that were later removed. I remember reading about that sometime in the 90s. I didn't notice anything different with my copy of Moonwalker until AVGN mentioned the Thriller tune was taken out. My copy has the tune when you randomly did the dance attack in the graveyard stage. And yes, my copy of Moonwalker was purchased on the date it was released in the U.S. as well.
Hmm, looking at Wikipedia, it says the Genesis version of Moonwalker was released in the US on August 24, Japan on August 25, and Europe on August 26, 1990. Surely Revision 1 came at least a few weeks to months later. I hope you liked my video, btw.
cool video, btw, I tried the code mentioned in my original genesis release. The USA version also has Moonwalker. Also, isn't there a second revision of Moonwalker. Wasn't it re-released under the SEGA CLASSICS banner?
