Well appart from the volume everything in my house is set at almost max yes.

My tv and monitor are at 90%+ brightness and contrast so thing looks sharp and right as for volume no i don't have to put it at 100% but that's because i don't have tiney 1-2 watt rms speakers in my tv or near my pc.

Hell the DS isn't even loud ennough for my taste with volume on 100% my 14 year old classic gba can output more from it's single old speaker.

And i still think the battery life is shit i mean a centrino laptop which is far far far more powerfull can last 3-4 hours while watching fulls-creen dvd's divx and burning some dvd's while i'm at it or play descent games that are on the level with the psp's so why can't they make a small machine with a smaller screen and far less powerfull hardware last 2-3 times as long.

So the fact the battery on a laptop is bigger than a PSP means nothing. And where the hell can I buy a laptop that runs 3d games and burns DVD's for 4 hours straight?

You might want to try the new centrino succesor it runs a good 3+ hours while doing heavy stuff and up to 10 if you just browse and use office.

According to "Computer Shopper", the Hi-Grade Notino C7000-1600 scored 324 minutes under light use, and is "one of the longest running times we have ever seen". So im doubtfull of 3+ hours under heavy load and 10 under light. As we all know, real world test are a world apart from claimed specs *cough*PS2*cough*

The reason the DS runs 10 odd hours is because it's all solid state and has small screens.

Let's see here...you can't turn up the brightness settings all the way, unless it's plugged into an outlet. Remind anyone of anything...like a laptop? Which is generally supposed to be plugged into an outlet for maximum performance.

I love all these reports, but has anyone here actually taken a PSP battery and played anything on it? I mean, it's all well and good that the guy was [probably] getting 6 hours on the freaking BIOS screen, but if the best games are going to be "CPU intensive," I'd like to see some real tests.

Blah, all this speculation is annoying. Until I actually get my unit in March, and run it down out of the box, I'm going to be a skeptic.

For the record, out of the box, my DS got about 3-5 Hours, probably around 4.

    Battery Life ?

Shouldn`t the games line up be the main focus.

What's the point of it being portable then?

Hey guys! Finally someone to sell a Game.com to!

    j/k ;-)

Well, battery life is quite important, but when there's nothing to play there's not much point either. And from what I gather, battery life is not *that* bad, especially as the games look sweet as hell. Finally some CD quality music on a handheld :-D

By the looks of it the PSP outperforms my only handheld (GP32) for battery life.

6 hours seems fine to me. Usually have the sound off or headphones in however that affects the battery life:)

I travel for about 45 mins a day on buses which is when I use my GP32, six hours is over a weeks worth of journey time.

    Thats fine for me.

My decision on which one to buy will be made not on battery life, it will be made on the games that are available and are on the horizon for each system. Heck if I have the money I`d get both a DS and a PSP :)

I'm glad I don't have the commute schedule you guys do....There will prob be 3-6 days a year I need it to last more than 3+ hours!! And on those flights I have no prob carrying a spare battery that can easily fit into my jacket pocket or the cell phone pouch in my briefcase...I couldn't care less about sony but I'm excited that mine will be here in a couple of weeks...sorry about how much you guys are all on the train or walking or whatever your doing for 3+ hours all the time.. :smt043

What gives you reason to doubt Tim Rogers' report? He is a well-known journalist in the industry which lends significant credibility, not some biased kid with a PSP.
