Okay, I've gone step by set and changed just about every fucking setting in the Regional Options in the control tab. It seems I can change my keyboard layout from something like US to UK, but when I try to use the Japanese key layoout, I can input kana, but the layout is still the same old US 101 bullshit. IE - shift + 2 = @, when it shouldn't.

This is for a Japanese user. I spent an entire day fucking w/ that PC... not about to spend another day... next stop, out the fucking window.

Any of you international users tried this?

EDIT: The driver in the control pane->keyboard applet says it's a 101/102 Keyboard. I wonder if that's the problem. Anyone know how to change that?

Use a Japanese version of XP? seeing as the global IME and most of the regional settings are meant for light text input use, not a 100% language change.

I can't find our version of XP-J, hence I'm stuck in this boat. It should allow me to change to a JPN keyboard (it's almost the same as a US) as it does the other ones whether I use it lightly, or use it in Japan 100%... it just won't for some reason.

GaijinPunch, if you're using an English Language version of XP then forget it ! I had the same shite. My keyboard was all wrong even though I set it to Japanese and I couldn't write Kana without using the stupid on screen menu ! That's why I only installed XP a month or sp ago because a friend gave me a Japanese version.

Fuck. That sucks.... means I'll have to:
    1) Locate the CD (not going to happen) and reinstall
    2) Get this chick an English keyboard.

I touch type, so could give two shits less what it is, but she doesn't. Oh, well. This point clearly goes to Gates.

That sucks! I thought Win2k and XP CDs were the same internationally? I kinda wanted to get a Japanese keyboard too...

Or maybe there's differences between the OEM and retail versions, or something gay like that?

You sure everything is set on Japanese? In 2k (don't know how different XP is), I did (except the keyboard), but by default the IME seemed to have some keys set to ones on the japanese keyboard (like the kana one and whatnot), backslashes are ¥s now, Java refuses to be in English and Paint Shop Pro gives notes about saving and loading in Japanese...
