Saw these screens about two days ago on another board (IGN's a bit slow). I hadn't seen the comic book stuff though. Is it supposed to come with a comic when it releases or are they making a comic series?
I clicked that link thinking i'd be seeing some Panzer Dragoon game. Now I have to get used to PD meaning Perfect Dark.
Meh, graphics arn't that impressive. Looks more like Halo then anything else. Still, the online play should be good.
The game looks really nice. I can't wait to see what the other launch titles look like. I just hope there are some decent ones.
Right now it isn't that graphically impressive, thats true. We'll see if they can haul ass and fix that up in the next couple of months before launch. Though Rare's performance as of late, I'm thinking of Grabbed by the Ghoulies, and the ever delayed Kameo haven't given me much confidence in their abilities. The huge number of people for a multiplayer match, if true is pretty nice though.
I really can't think of anything more they can do to the graphics, though. I wasn't "impressed", but I haven't been truly impressed by a game's graphics since Halo was released (even then, it wasn't too special).
It was the little things in Halo that first impressed me back in 2001 as well, not so much the graphics. Remember, it was the era of simple 3D on the DC. Oh sure, the DC could run 3D games, but they were quite simplistic. Halo gave us nicely rendered outdoor locales pocked with lots of hills, rivers, beaches, etc. AI for both enemies and your allies was way ahead of anything else at the time...I can't tell you how cool it was to try to keep your CPU allies alive when using the Warthog, you almost felt sorry when they died. Things like the way the Warthog spun its tires and chunks of dirt would fly and roll down hills if you looked closely. The physics engine alone was leaps and bounds ahead of anything we had seen leading up to that year. That's the way I'm looking at the Xbox360. The most powerful GPU is all well and good, but I'm already seeing some nice improvements in games like the new Morrowind. Compare the new combat screens to the previous version (which already played well) and you'll begin to appreciate the added depth that this technology will bring to a familiar concept.
I don't mean to make this sound like "lol grafx mean nufin, s'all bout gameplay guys", but here I go anyway. I love the original Perfect Dark. I think it is one of the best FPS games, console or otherwise. The game mechanics and level design were so incredibly deep and really showed a lot of effort was put into the game. Sadly, 4-player action was near impossible due to the limitations of the N64 hardware. I would be more than happy if Rare just ported the N64 game to the XBOX and slapped on Live support. The models, the animations and sounds... they're absolutely classic. Blasting someone in the head with a shotgun and seeing their head snap back from the force of impact was oh so satisfying. Rare didn't have to go to extreme levels with gore in that game in order for me to reflect on my last kill with, "Man... that was violent". Erm, this is quickly turning into an I <3 PD rant. Sorry. This is why I only post once every 6 months. :|
