if you have any thrift stores in the area, you can find old drives there. Or computer surplus stores. Older drives like everyone else has mentioned read slower.
I may have an old 4x or 8x CD-ROM drive laying around somewhere. If I do, and you're willing to distribute the dump if it works, it's yours for free. I'll look for it in the next few of days.
Hey guys, just a quick update. I had a family ordeal yesterday/today that had to be dealt with, so I wasn't able to give this my undivided attention. I did test the disc on an older drive and the game boots up and plays in Gens/GS just fine. What does this mean? Well, I didn't get the same result on my 2 newer drives. If you're familiar with the game, there's a FMV of the old MK commercial (with all the kids yelling "Mooortal Kombaaat!") that plays before the title screen. On my newer drives, the game will freeze after skipping this FMV, never reaching the title screen. This means that it's more than likely just a drive issue. I will attempt to make a proper backup of it from said drive within the next few days, upload it somewhere and post the link here for you guys. That is, of course, if it's okay with the mods.
Great news! Glad to see it works and I'm pretty sure Kevin wouldn't mind but it is always worth getting an opinion first. Here is hoping I get to dick around with it!
It's no problem at all. Just put it in the downloads section. Mega CD is a dead system and Mortal Kombat Mega CD is not going to be ported to another console when there are far higher quality versions out there. Yakumo
I posted in his new thread, a crc comparison between the two discs reveals the 'beta' disc is actually a 1:1 match for the retail version.
