So that MK source (930+mb .tar file) that got leaked a while back, has anyone tried to tinker with it? Is there anything of value in there? I would love to see it ported to everything from 3do & jag to dreamcast
Assuming you're not a bot I'll just say something... Biggest problem with code is lack of any editor or content toolkit. One has to be made but that's why it's great the code is available. Many other games are possible with the code (shmups, platformer, RPGs, etc); though some minor modification would be needed. Since it's Visual Studio, it can be converted to many consoles (xbox, Dreamcast, 360, etc), plus the Nintendo 64 code is also included which makes it even easier and more flexible towards targets that aren't supported by Visual Studio. Probably one of the best codes around for 2D games, but still largely depends on user preference (O.S. with IDE or all in one toolkit). Technology is very advanced: 16-bit color, transparency, motion blur, realtime adpcm mixing, cd audio playback, cd swapping to buffer, and probably other stuff. But once again most of this stuff relies on technology libraries and content editors. Supposedly there's a free DirectX API from Microsoft called CDX. Biggest problem with this code is the way it's muxed with copyright content. This makes things overly difficult for those that wish to code and convert existing games to different targets or make new games. Many coders already have redundant amount of games legally so makes things ridiculously difficult just to do something ... There should be more code and less prototype content out there for other games but maybe money talks and that's the problem.
Not a bot, just a "lurker" I like to ask questions from time to time. I'm interested in mortal kombat because I liked umk3 on genesis when I was a brat. And wouldn't mind seeing new ports on retro or new platforms. The umk3t tom hack will have to do for now.
/vr/ tried tinkering with it before the thread got nuked due to some assclown reporting it as a copyright violation (and while this is true it is not their property or copyright so moot point) They got as far as layout and trying to compile with a win3.X setup or win95/98 setup. im not sure how well it worked out after this since I skimmed the thread. https://yuki.la/vr/5161753 archive asking what happened https://archived.moe/vr/thread/5117527 original thread
