After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Please know High Voltage Software worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game. High Voltage Software were not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned. Past details mentioned that NetherRealm Studios focused entirely on the PS4 and Xbox One versions, leaving development for older platforms to High Voltage Software. You may remember that name as the studio behind the lackluster PC port, which required numerous updates and patches to reach a playable state after release. If you pre-ordered Mortal Kombat X for PS3 or Xbox 360, please go to the retail location where you pre-ordered the game and you will receive a full refund. this is now my #1 title i am looking for now for 360!!! if ANYONE has any type of build for "OLD GEN" please PM me...
Eh, i'd rather it cancelled than released broken or poor. They are simply doing things at a level on the PS4 that they couldn't replicate without significantly reducing the quality. HVS is hardly to blame, given little resources and more than likely having to underbid the job to begin with and a resulting shitty budget and the inevitable changes that would be made to make it work probably just weren't worth the effort.
Makes me sad. Not that I like Mortal Kombat, but once again, its the end of life for one of my favorite consoles. (360) Games are being canned or arent coming at all. :/
Such a departure from the days where they'd just outsource the job of throwing a half assed port on something like gameboy, or gamegear/master system and collecting a check cuz it was Mortal Kombat and people would buy it. I hope somebody finds a copy. It can't be anywhere near as bad as the underpowered ports of yesteryear.
Glad NetherRealm was able to focus all their energy on current gen. Last gen has enough games, anyway. I still haven't played X, although I'd like to.
True I guess. With Xbox 360 games slowly coming out, gives people time to complete a backlog. I have a LARGE backlog.
damn this depresses me... i am a big fan of MK and love all the games i've been looking into getting a 360 or ps3 lately and for some reason had thought this game was out for these systems. i see all the time when games come out they have a 360 or ps3 version this is a bummer i dont want a ps4 yet ._. i guess mk 9 will have to do.
I wasn't already giving any hope, too much delays and no release date are the biggest signals of a game being cancelled, Watch Dogs for WiiU was an exception. I think they did it because of the Arkham Knight PC Version fiasco.
While it may be a bummer for those that don't yet have a XBO or PS4, I think they did the right thing by not shoveling a low quality port out the door. Usually after investing money in development a company will release a broken or low quality game/port just to offset the loss from the investment. I guess they figured releasing this would have tarnished the brand far too much or something along those lines.
Did High Voltage Software develop the PC version of MKX? If that is, I wouldn't be suprised. They had huge problems porting the game to the PC, their issues would quadruple on the X360 and PS3 ports. I have the following PC specs, and the game couldn't even run half decently in my PC @1680x1050..... GTX 560 Pentim G3258 @4.3Ghz 8GB RAM
On 1680x1050 on the latest patch on lowest settings, it struggles to hit 30 FPS. I need to lower the resolution to 1024x768 if I want consistent 60 FPS gameplay.
But all my other games run fine. I guess this game isn't gonna run well on Dual Cores. Mad Max is consistent 60 FPS in Medium settings. Metro Revisited is 30+ in Medium settings. GTA 5 of all things is 60FPS consistently on low settings. MKX is the only one struggling even on the lowest settings.
I imagine this one was canned due to HVS having issues getting it run at all, ironically though out of all the cross gen stuff it would probably be one of the easier games to scale down (look at MK Vita or even Injustice Vita) given the right team. Mad Max was also going to be a cross gen title but I suspect WB canned it due to low last gen sales since last year.
