Thought everyone might enjoy the following article: Most Hated Gaming Missions: http://videogameconsolelibrary.com/blogs/mg/?p=447 Candid feedback and thoughts are always appreciated. What gaming missions do you hate? Hopefully a good read for all. Terry
Rescuing survivors in dead rising. Havana Good time in GTA Vice City Stories. Ungodly difficult. You had to have been stock piling ammo since the beginning of the game to even half 1/2 a chance at beating it.
I am disappointed that the article had no specific examples, but I truly do hate Escort missions for sure. Cyantist said it well with Dead Rising. Rescuing the survivors was a brutal task, one I chose not to follow through with!
i hate the helicopter missions in gta, you waste tons of infinite ammo to kill one person or is wrecked when following the target.
Stealth missions that fail you for getting noticed/caught. I hate being stealthy in games. If the alarm goes off, why can't I kill everyone and then shut off the alarm?
Yep, I can't think of anything more universally hated than a difficult escort mission. Or any mission that relys on you having to protect an npc. Protecting Natalya in Goldeneye 007's Control stage comes to mind. The GTA's were chock full of em too.
Two come to mind; The very last level of Pang (Arcade) Cannon Fodder - the level where you have to place three men on the pads to trigger the helicopter (and keep them alive!)
Mile high club - cod4 man i lost to many controllers to that or green grass and high tides on rockband 1 still dont think ive completed it :'(
God, this. There are few things more irritating in a videogame than having a 6-hour run fucked over by stupid AI. The player getting punished for the game's failure... it's just bad game design. Dead Rising was kind of frustrating like that, there was a fantastic game in there, but the overarching design was questionable.
Resident Evil 4's escort missions with Ashley were only tolerable after finishing it and getting her the armor. After that it was actually kind of enjoyable.
gta 4 : mad dog mission that glitches young merlin on the snes : the minecart sections and most of the game! cannon fodder on the snes : bazooka men. couldnt cope when I was a sprog! micro machines 2 on the snes : helicopter mission was hilariously hard earthworm jim 1 : the water maze bit earthworm jim 2 : the shoot em up bit where u push the balloon forward (awful) and the inflated head level. also iso 9000! smash tv : 2nd world with all the robots total carnage : the first boss, the goblin guy ANY thq platform game (hilariously hard. example : family dog or ren and stimpy) robocop vs terminator : level 3, way too hard SSF2 on snes : fighting t hawk (lol he was so tough) forsaken on n64 : all the missions super bomberman 2 : the whole of the single player game is worthless basically any game that caused you to need a cheat code to get past the level or just spoiled your enjoyment of a game up to that point
Those were actually my favorites. Especially the brute camp bit. Yeah, thats why I never finished the game.
My biggest hate towards some games aren't really the stupid missons, I can't stand poor controls. A lot games have perfect controls and they feel right, but when they are poorly done, simple missions that shouldn't take much effort become a pain in the ass.
I didn't find them quite so bad myself. A bit detracting when all I really wanted was to see what was going to happen next. What Bungie could have done was what Team Silent did for Silent Hill 2 and make the side story entirely a side story. Something that got unlocked and played through later, though they would have had to make more of how Master Chief and the Arbiter decided to band together.
Really the only bad one was the first of the ones where you are in the gasgiant, great journey and one of the other ones were pretty cool.
Seconded. The last level on the sat dish (forgotten it's name...) I also hate. On anything harder than Agent it's stupidly difficult.
