I'm using a Model 2 Genesis. The Everdrive PCB Version is 2.3, OS version 18 and the Firmware is 12. I had a bunch of roms on the card, certain ones would load but others won't. It'll flash them but instead of the game starting I get a black screen. I pinpointed what's going on. Some of my roms are .BIN and most are .SMD. The Everdrive won't load the .SMD roms? Here's where I'm confused, Windows detects my .BIN roms as BIN files and my .SMD roms as SMD files (Obviously) but here's where it gets confusing. When the Everdrive loads the .BIN files, it says the rom type is SMD, and my SMD files the Everdrive says their UNKNOWN. So my question is, is this a known problem that can be patched? Or is there something wrong with my roms? Don't know if this helps but all of my roms work on emulators.
The ROM's must be in BIN format for Everdrive-MD, it used to mention this on the Everdrive-MD homepage:- http://krikzz.com/everdrive-md.html But I cant see it mentioned anymore(?) KRIKzz has a tool at the bottom of the above page called "smd-to-bin" which can convert smd files to bin:- http://krikzz.com/pub/support/everdrive-md/smd-to-bin.zip There is also "32x-to-bin" for 32X ROM's:- http://krikzz.com/pub/support/everdrive-md/32x-to-bin.zip Keem in mind that these tools do not rename the file extension, the ROM's might still be labelled .SMD but internally they will be .BIN files. Also you cant always rely on what file extension is displayed, since many ROM's found online are incorrectly labelled .SMD or .BIN and it does not always relate to the actual internal ROM layout.
When the EverDrive says it's flashing as SMD.. it means it's a Sega MegaDrive game, as opposed to SMS (Sega MasterSystem). It is not referring to the file format.
I just got done using the converting program and it worked! I loaded 15 games that were previously not working, 14 of them work now. Contra Hard corps still doesn't work, but I'm not worried, I already got another rom of it that does work. So even if there's a few that are still duds it's not a big deal because I know where to get them individually. I was just worried I had to get all new roms or something might have been wrong with the Everdrive. Awesome thanks guys for the fast response!
I had some luck getting some games to work by turning on Hard Reset in the options, if you're still having trouble.
