About two years ago, when I was home visiting my parents on winter break, I was watching the NGN free preview and I saw this japanese movie about the creation of VHS. I don't know if any of you have seen or heard of it, but it was really good. It chronicled the trials and tribulations of the team that created VHS and what they went through to make it the tape format of choice. Anyway, I was just thinking that I would like to see movies similar to this about the creation of video games/hardware. I'd like to see a movie showing the creation of the SNES-CD/Playstation or the first Final Fantasy game. Stuff .like that. Anyway, just thought I'd throw it out there.
That sounds like the TV show here in Japan called "Project-X". Every week, they chronicle some kind of achievement in Japan's modern history. It's my favourite show on TV (but that isn't saying much because most of Japanese TV is utter crap.) I have a video from Hudson Soft promoting their CD-ROM unit, and it shows how designers make music for games, digitize artwork and colour it in on computers, and how they lay out maps in an RPG. It's fascinating stuff.
ccovell, what time and channel is that Project X on? It may give me something to use my TV for apart from gaming and movies. Yakumo
I watched that Project-X twice, about the design/build of the shinkansen (bullet-train) and about the build of a bridge I don't remember the name now. Nice shows! That's another one with the history of Sony, but I missed it. PD
Nowadays some games come with "making off" dvd's. Silent Hill 2 for instance. It shows members of the team, interviews, artwork, the office, making music, modeling characters etc.
Yakumo, I caught it on Sunday mornings on NHK, but I hear they also show on Wednesday, late at night. So, you'll need to check your local listings.
