Hi guys, Unfortunately I will have to move back to Tokyo for work reasons. Things might happen quite quickly and I might move out quicker than I find a place. The company is thinking of putting me in a weekly mansion for a few weeks. However I have a lot of stuff that needs to move into new apartment (bed, sofa, fridge etc etc). I was wondering if anyone had experience with moving companies holding on to the stuff (at a fee I am sure). The new company is in Ginza so I am considering perhaps to live in cheaper east Tokyo this time as the minimum size I need is 30m I think. It would be great to have a 'designer' apartment too but we will see how the money situation is
Never had my stuff stored here. I'm sure they will charge you through the teeth though. Do the smart thing: come up here and find your place, then go back. Note though, that basically now through April 1st are the worst times of the year to find a place. For a 30 sq m place you will find little wiggle room on the price, I'm afraid. But, who knows. You may get lucky.
I missed the deadline to hand in my housing notice (has to be done by letter a month in advance) therefore I have to pay for February anyway so I have a bit more time. The storage probably wont be necessary then. My new company has said they would pay for my accommodation in Tokyo for a couple weeks so I should use that time to look for a place - go back to Osaka and pack. Now to find a cheap place but nice place...I might even consider Ueno (despite homeless people... I live in Ebisucho Osaka right now), or Taito-ku Hibiya Line / Ginza line there are lots of places apparently according to Shou. It would be good to be no more than 30 mins to Shibuya and no more than 30 mins to Ginza I guess Of course somewhere like Hiroo would be great but my budget blown im sure
There are cheap places that are close to Shibuya, but they're further from Ginza. You can live on the Toyoko line and transfer to Hibiya painlessly at Nakameguro. Same platform if I'm not mistaken.
Thanks for the tip GaijinPunch! I am not prepared to pay 140,000 yen for an apartment like this one - but I am thinking about "designer" mansion This might be a 'sakura' though just to draw me to the shop. http://tokyoapartmentinc.com/system/page/11179.html I currently pay 80,000 for a 1 ldk in ebisucho (den den town) Osaka, inclusive of management fee just 1 min to ebisucho station/ 5 min walk to Namba.. I wont get that kind of deal in Tokyo but something less than 120 would be ok I guess. ideally 100k...but that might be really tough.
Depending upon the size, 100k is doable. Check stations like Kamiyacho. There is also government housing which is usually near every station and much cheaper.
No way! I was staying in a hostel near Dobutsuen-mae station until a few hours ago. Completely forgot you lived in Osaka.
Arrgh!! no way! When are you next back in Japan? Let me know for sure lets meet up though ill probably be in Tokyo by then fingers crossed. "Depending upon the size, 100k is doable. Check stations like Kamiyacho. There is also government housing which is usually near every station and much cheaper." Thanks for the protip! I hope to get at least 30m+ and clean...there are a lot of 1980 properties but they are not refurbished and the basic furnishings such as kitchen unit, sink , bathroom are quite old. I think its important to live in a good environment for creativity and peace of mind.
I'm hoping to make a stop by Japan when I'm moving (temporarily) to China in April. Planning to mainly focus on Tokyo next time, so we can probably meet. Good luck with the moving mate!
I agree with you but it's hard to get a nice refurbished place for under 100k in the city that is 30m+.
Definitely tough - I don't think I'll get anything near those stations - I will have to go further up into Taito-ku most likely! I suppose I could push it a tiny bit like 110 but that should be my limit I think, I can use money elsewhere on other important things. And I will have to put up with a slightly older property such as 1990. This is not a good time to be moving neither as till April I heard is the usual moving times.
Thanks for the heads up - I need to learn more about how society works You are a wealth of knowledge sir!
Well, technically the owners will start getting stingy about now. Most students and ant people (salarymen) know where they need to be in April. Not all have the benefit of getting settled in early, but many do. I got my current place at the first of February last year and there was quite a lot of fisting involved. They only gave me a break on the reikin, but they had also just dropped the price a week before. March? Forget about it. Personally I would try to postpone the move until mid-April but that's me.
Thanks for the advice - the new company needs me in the office from end of this month but is willing to pay for weekly mansion for a few weeks so i can find a relevant place. However I should give notice to my current place so that I stop paying for it. Here is a example of a quick search on chintai - 1ldk for about 11man (i would try and knock that down and the key/guarantor...but I think they are going to be ballsy right now as you say!) Of course a lot of these advertisements online are 'sakura' I am sure... http://www.chintai.net/detail/bk_C01000384010604001/ The new company is currently offering 200k all in for moving costs in one off payment (I already told them its a bit low but lets see what they come back with.. considering id have to pay key/deposit money/insurances and moving costs for a 1ldk with a huge bed, tv, 3 desks, fridge, washing machine etc.. ) For moving, does anyone have any good experiences with moving companies?
Reikin is not hard to bump off these days, but I had a place tell me no. It was also on 4F w/ no elevator. :| I think you'll find most professional moving places pretty professional. For inner-city, I use the smaller guys. You might want to try アート引越しセンター. I think they are cheaper than the bigger names, and they did a good job with one of my larger moves. Note that the prices include packing, AFAIK. Just like gas, it's full service.
