http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/11/26/india.attacks/index.html WTF? This world is going insane.
Yeesh everywhere I want to vist is getting more and move hostile. India is on my to vist list....it's not anymore. Thailand was next....that's in ruins..... Watch some shit stir up in Indonesia that's next on my to vist list. And here I am thinking Florida was the most unsafe place on my to vist list.
There was a tourist (incidentally American) in Thailand airport yesterday, who when interviewed regarding the major incident taking place there said (and I quote)... "Back home in America tomorrow is a holiday. Loads of us are going to miss this holiday because of this silly little demonstration going on here..." Er, the country of Thailand is on the brink of a coup and the military have demanded that there is a re-election. Gotta laugh at the guys grasp of World politics! As for Mumbai - the death toll has risen to 101 and several hostages have been taken. Apparently an American family have been taken hostage. It's a worrying situation, but Pakistan and Northern India are falling apart.
This could be the trigger for an atomic war, or at least a dangerous conventional war with the danger of becoming atomic.
Bring on the nukes over conventional weapons any day! You'll either die instantly/quite quickly or go on to gain superpowers...at least that's what movies have led me to believe...
I was there not long ago and staying at the Oberoi In fact I have one guy from our office in Singapore who was in the Oberoi, he got out and had his clothes on as the other guy who got out was in a hotel dressing gown........... And a girl who was in the Trident Hotel....which is connected to the Oberoi....who is really badly shaken up but is now at a relatives outside of Mumbai Had a lot of people off their next week......which is now knocked on the head What with this , Thailand, the global economy.........the end of the world is nigh ;-)
He was probably caught on camera whilst angry. Very few are rational thinkers when in such a state. Imagine being in his situation, stuck away from home and family during America's biggest holiday in a foreign country with no end in sight and probably only the clothes on his back. Add to this his concerns for his job/work and whatever else was going on (fear of military action etc etc.) Also, you don't know how much information was being fed to those people. Somewhat unreasonable to laugh at him. Although it was a poor choice of words on his part.
A: Caught on camera whilst an ignorant twat is closer to the mark. He was indignant and not scared. It was a hissy fit! B: Actually, I do as 3 of my friends were in the airport and had Internet access. Confusion reigned, they were not getting anywhere, no information (as all the staff legged it) & decided in the end to hit the road rather than wait it out. C: Please don't feel compelled to defend him - watching the video footage was actually very funny. I wished I could find it on YouTube or whatever. It wasn't shown by the BBC again (I think the earlier morning team were also amused by it as there were a few smirks around the news desk).
I was in Pune the day this happened, the day after pretty much every major city was filled with armed guards. I came home as soon as i could after several phone calls from my family.
I saw the clip you're talking about on BBC News: America. You're being unreasonable. He did come across as a stereotypical US tourist, but under the circumstances I think his reaction was somewhat justifiable. He was clearly frustrated and at the end of his tether. I'm sure you've been in a similar situation before, under lesser circumstances. You've had several hissy fits on this forum in the past.
This is terrible. Also I found out that people hiding had their hiding places advertised by cnn, and the attackers had blackberry pdas. They say the news and went to kill the hiding people...

Er, the fact he was American was irrelevant, hence me saying 'incidentally American' in the initial post. Lets just move on this is taking up more of this thread than is wholly necessary! Hissy fits... I'll have you know.... <rant!> ;-)
If a British citizen stood up and said "Back home in the UK tomorrow is a holiday. Loads of us are going to miss this holiday because of this silly little demonstration going on here..." then I'd call him a fucking idiot. There's justifiable anger, and then there's ignorance, and this man is clearly into the latter.
Thailand is not a typical US tourist destination. The guy looked like a business man. I doubt he was ignorant to the reasoning behind the demonstration. But whatever. It ended peacefully (for now) and hopefully it will steer the country into a more positive political system. In terms of India, this won't be the last of its kind I would wager, even within the next year or two. It is disturbing how this is anticipated to escalate, especially if extremist Islam takes control of Pakistan (which looks inevitable). It was impressive how the Indian special forces took control too, I think. And of course, horrific for the death toll.
