Figured I'd post a bit of my NES collection with some other cool junk thrown in. First Up, my Complete Licensed NTSC Set: Finished it up this summer, still looking for around 20 unlicensed games to polish her off for good. Snagged one of the cheapest Stadium Events carts of the last few years and picked it up locally to boot, Die Hard was the last game added. There are just over 400 NES boxes set behind the loose carts. Some of my uncommon boxes Zelda Test Cart Mega Man 2 proto with "Clash Man" Gargoyle's Quest II and Street Fighter 2010 Big Box Gyromite Mappy-Land Proto Low G Man Proto Kartoon Kombat for Genesis on 3.5" Floppy (unreleased) and Hoppin' mad for NES (unreleased) Caesar's Palace Proto Blues Brothers Proto Arcadia VI proto (unreleased) Hatris and Bases Loaded 2 Protos Several Pitfall SNES and Genesis protos (one of each VERY different than the released version) and 9 different builds of a GB Boxing game Bubsy II Proto SNES MK3 Proto chips Krazy Kreatures Proto Super Turrican NTSC chips (unreleased) Darkman Proto Ninja Gaiden III Tengen Pac-Man Proto Vectorman 2 Proto Kitty's Catch (unreleased) Super Talking Jeopardy! Proto on a super cool Atari (Not Tengen!) board I've got some other cool stuff I need to take pics of, a few of which are unreleased games. Never put all this stuff in a thread before, figured the people here would appreciate it.
Apart from the amazing complete set it's a very cool collection of proto's and test carts. I like the "Beer money" jar
Thanks guys! Graciano: The set took me longer than most people who set out to do it, but I wasn't in any rush to finish it. I didn't mind hunting for a good deal or buying up lots for resale instead of dumping the cash to get some of the higher end stuff. It probably took me a good 5-6 years to complete. ave: Thanks man! I love my protos and I'm always in the market for more, my brother and I have been collecting them seriously for about 2 years now. I release a free proto ROM once a month over on the NintendoAge boards too, so many of these are already available to the public. As for the unreleased games, I repro them and release the ROM for free (sometimes with minor alterations to some people's distaste) after I have sold out of my copies. Kitty's Catch is next on the list. I'll update my post with a few other protos and at least 2 other unreleased titles when I get a minute.
I think I'm at 749 not including protos, PAL Exclusives, or other random junk like test carts and Famicombox games. I think my number of boxes is at 411, but again these probably aren't exactly correct. If I didn't spend stupid money on protos all the time I would have polished off the unlicensed stuff a long time ago. I do love me some protos though, so its worth it ;-)
Sorry dude, I'm a knucklehead. It takes up 2 of these bookshelves from Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=11061209 So about 6' tall and 5' wide. I used to have all of my boxes displayed separately at my parent's house, but wanted them altogether here. On the upside, it saves space and brings my loose carts to the front of the shelves, on the downside they are no longer displayed. Got 4 more NES protos in the mail this week: Road Runner Proto: Solar Jetman Proto: Boulderdash Proto: Archon Proto: I have a bunch more coming in this week, some quite interesting ones to boot. I'll update with pictures when they come in!
^^^^ Thanks for the props man! A lot of people hate on Archon but I really like that game a lot. Got 3 more in today! Mag Max NES Proto: Magic Darts NES Proto: S.C.A.T. NES Proto: Not the most desirable titles, but I'm pretty pumped about S.C.A.T. Proto. I've still got a bunch more coming, so I'll post them more as they come in! A couple of more cool protos in the other day: Very Early Monster in Pocket Proto: Only one level, there are some huge differences from the final release. Different character sprites, title screen, infinite lives, and a bunch of other stuff. One of the coolest differences is that the "Monster" character is named "Frankenstein" as he was obviously designed after Frankenstein's monster. Spy vs Spy 2: The Island Caper unreleased proto: Very proud of this one, there have been screen shots of this one floating around for 20+ years, but this is the first time that a proto has actually surfaced. I was able to score this for $300 which is the lowest amount I've ever had to pay for an unreleased game. I should have still more protos coming in soon, so stay tuned!
Wow that's an amazing NES collection! Just out of curiosity what other differences are there in the Mega Man 2 proto? I'm just really interested in Mega Man stuff and that caught my eye.
Very nice collection there mate. Your nes proto's are very cool!!! Have you tested the SF2010 proto much? Any differences from retail?
Skaarg: Mega Man 2 is the game that got me into collecting, and it's easily my favorite game of all time. Oddly enough, it was also the game that got me into proto collecting as its the first I ever purchased. There seem to be many text differences and errors, but beyond the Clash Man name change, there isn't anything crazy to note. Kiff: I played through the first 2 levels and didn't notice any differences. I had just beaten the game a week or 2 before I bought the proto; it was such a pain in the ass I don't think I'll be able to compare the later levels side by side anytime soon. I just made another substantial prototype purchase with my brother, I'll be updating when they come in. Thanks for the props guys
How come Arcadia VI proto (unreleased) is being taken with the EPROMs uncovered? Isn't that a bad idea?
It's been dumped and backed up on several computers I own, the chips could be completed wiped out tomorrow and all the data would still be saved. I covered the EPROMs before returning it to it's case, just fired off a quick pic before hand. EPROMs are much more resiliant than people think, you really have to slam them with a decent amount of UV light to do any real damage. I have some serious protos coming in this week hopefully, I'll update with more pics.
Thanks man The 1-up mushroom holds sour candies, my girlfriend got it for me a while back. I have 7 protos on there way from one seller and another proto coming from another seller sometime this week. Some really cool junk coming in this time, I'll make sure to take plenty of pics! 7 new NES protos came in the mail yesterday, some real interesting ones too! First up, Zombie Nation Proto: Alpha Mission Proto: Caveman Ninja NTSC Proto (Not Euro as the label states, unreleased in this format: Castelian Proto: Solomon's Key 2 NTSC Proto (Unreleased) Ikari Warriors II Proto: RamPart Proto: I've found some very cool stuff even after just a quick playthrough of each. The Caveman Ninja is definitely NTSC, and the attack and jump buttons are switched! Many other text differences in most of the games (licensing and poor translations for the most part), but I haven't gotten a chance to go through them all completely. I received another proto in the mail today, just need to snap some pics of it. Tell me what you think
I am amazed at how frequent you seem to be getting new stuff mate. You must have some great contacts! Your collection is amazing!
I have something better than great contacts... Shit loads of disposable money and I do my best to make sure the seller is always happy . Being honest, nice, and offering more than anyone else currently in the NES proto market goes a lot further than you could possibly imagine. I got 3 more in recently, and took a picture of one that I apparently never photographed before. I also have one more NES proto on the way and one blank TKEPROM-02 board for my Super Turrican NTSC chips. Super Glove Ball Proto: Tiger-Heli Proto (had this for a while, don't know why I never snapped a pic): I recently sold out most of my SNES and Genny protos, but I couldn't pass these 2 up. MUSHA: Light Crusader on a very cool long board with some dips: MUSHA is a great game and rare enough on its own, I couldn't pass that one up. Light Crusader isn't the greatest game in the world, but it's one I owned and played the crap out of when I was younger and I'm a sucker for anything on an odd PCB. I'll update again when that other junk shows up
Seeing that Musha proto made me say wow. Haha! Awesome collection too, hell - as you've saida retail copy of Musha is rare enough.
