I'm after a multi input VGA box, that can be used with XBOX, GameCube, PS2 and (hopefully) Dreamcast. I know the "current" 3 consoles are available on some, but is there a 4-way VGA box? Any recommendations? im looking to hook up my spare 'cube to my 21" Spark Workstation monitor, but would like an all in one solution just in case.
http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=219&products_id=3166& Thats the one I use....works out pretty good. Kindof blurry though. Oh, and for some reason on my monitor it messes up the colours when you switch to 60hz mode with the cube...though it only seems to do it with my monitor. http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-86-77-2-15-vga-70-4s4.html I've heard good things from friends about this one but never used it myself. Contemplating getting one (as apparently this will fix my colour issues when running GC games in 60hz)
Save yourself the pain, DON'T get that. I cannot being to think of the horror of composite video shown sharpened as hell on a 21" VGA :smt030
there are number of transcoders available in UK I believe. I got one from local importer for around AUD 180 or there about early this year for testing...
XRGB is the best upscan converter. You won't find better. Of course, its not cheap, but there is no better way to do it.
The port is wired for Japanese RGB. You could just get one of those five into one SCART switchboxes (which seem to be readily available in PAL countries) and rewire the output on that.
How much are those XRGB boxes and where can they be bought from? I'd love to play my Saturn in VGA with all it's shooters in Tate Mode. By the way, how come the screen shots in instruction books look better than what you see on screen? many Saturn games look like that. Yakumo
Perhaps because they use RGB, and you use composite? Or maybe, more likely, is that they take screenshots using the devkit, directly from the video memory, which is about the best quality you can get.
If you are looking for top quality from your cube you'll want to buy a modified Gamecube DV cable made for VGA. Only games that are 480p(640x480) compatible will work and you need to have NTSC cube with the Digital AV port on the back. Unfortunately I don't think there are any true VGA boxes that will work with PAL consoles without a mod of some type. The Dreamcast is the one exception to this case since it was designed to be used on a VGA monitor. If you have NTSC consoles or just want the Dreamcast you could daisy chain everything. Both the Performance VGA box for Dreamcast and the X2VGA has VGA and audio in and out. I have my Gamecube running through my Dreamcast VGA box and it has been working great.
I'm really surprised you have to ask! Click here to view on Lik-Sang, but don't forget to use the link at the top of the forum to buy! ;-) XRGB can be picked up for cheaper than XRGB-2, usually.
Thanks for the link Retro. Those boxes are very expensive but I think it will be worth getting one just to play my Saturn in VGA. I won't use the ASSEMbler code though since I have my own because Lik-Sang also sponsor my site. But I urge others to click on ASSEMBler's link. Yakumo
