so i have this Multi Game Hunter for a long time and i never git it to work. When i plug it into my Mega Drive, all i get is a Blackscreen, no menu, nothing! Also, i got this 2 strange modules thy also dont seem to work. Get a Blackscreen too, when i plug them into the Mega Drive. Can anyone explain what these Modules are? or how to get the Multi Game Hunter working?
Did u connected the video out of the MGH to your TV ? The Game Saver Cards are simply used to save games with a save option if you load them from a floppy with the MGH. The MGH should have a slot for them.
oh, i thought it would be like other copiers that i know. have never seen a MGH in action. maybe try cleaning contacts otherwise.
yeah i dont have the psu for it the bottom says 10V DC but nothing about polarisation the psu connects to the Floppy unit edit: i hooked up a 9V DC powersupply and the "7805" gets REALLY hot instantly. is this supposed to happen? i know they can get hot, but so fast?
From what I remember it uses 9ish VDC with negative tip. Should be easy enough to verify by looking at the circuit. A hot regulator would make me suspect you've got the polarity backwards. Does anything light up? Go you get power out of the regulator?
Yes, if You connect power supply with wrong polarity LM7805 gets hot. abveost, it this correct polarity: ?
I used a european Master System 2 Powersupply. Which has the Polarity like the Picture above. When i insert the MGH without a Powersupply into my Mega Drive and turn it on, the LED on the MGH lights up Green. When i connect the Master System 2 Powersupply nothing changes, besides that the Floppy unit gets REALLY hot. I also tried a DC Powersupply with Plus-inside/Minus-outside, nothing changes, but the 7805 stays icecold. Shouldnt atleast the OS come up even without a connected or powered Floppyunit? Edit: here are some pics of the Floppyunit The MGH:
Here is my grey version of MGH: MGH menu starts after Snes power on (without additional power supply). When I put power supply, floppy disc starts working. I don't have 1,44MB now so I can't fully test MGH.
Thanks for the info. I sadly dont have the SNES adapter so i can't test the SNES side. When you plug in the Powersupply does the LED on the MGH turn Red?
Try to put any Genesis/Mega Drive game into a MGH an then start console. "The cart slots in there and is used to either take a copy of the data from the cartridge and dump it to floppy disk(s) or you can simply run the cartridge directly through the MGH. The system needs a cartridge inserted to operate." http://www.theretroranch.co.uk/page35/index.php
If I remember correctly these are required for real time saving. They are totally useless on anything else, so you wouldn't see anything if you plugged them into a console directly.
thanks for the info! i'll try it later to boot it up with a cartridge! edit: i tested to boot it up with a game on the side, and nothing. tried it with Sonic and Mega Turrican. I think it's just Broken . But can you test the Capacitors? and tell me if your Multimeter beeps too ? because mine does it on all Capacitors in the MGH, and i think it means they are dead, even the Ceramic ones ? i mean they could be fried due to wrong Polarity?
You need to check the LM7805. If multimeter shows 5V on output, LM is working properly. Capacitors almost always beeps. My MGH has stickers, so if I don't need to unscrew it I will don't do it I found instruction how to convert SNES roms to MGH roms: http://www.cherryroms.co.uk/forums/.../roms-smc-playable-mgh-multi-game-hunter.html But need advice - how to use SNES rom file larger then 1.44MB in MGH? How to copy it on floppy disc?
The cartridges change the memory mapping when used with SFC games. Possibly for HiROM support, or just remapping the SRAM for HiROM games. The PCB supports DSP too.
Ok, it is working, but when I load Super Mario All Stars files I have that info: Is it regional lockout? How to use that real time saving cartridge? When I put it into slot console don't want to start.
Certainly looks like a region mismatch. What region is each? To use RTS you enable it in the menu and then activate it with a button combination in game. I don't recall which combination goes with which copier as I have many. It's generally a combination of start/select and L/R for save and slow motion.
