I have created a portable console system which is a console system of two halves, one half contains a PSone screen, joysticks and button controls, the other half is the console system which inserts into the screen section like a large cartridge, in a way so that both parts interact with each other.

This system is currently complete with a modded N64, I will be making other systems like SNES, Megadrive, SMS, Jaguar, Gamecube, Playstation 1 also integrate into the same base unit over the next months.

This is a unique system as it makes console systems integrate into a base unit like large cartridges...

Please have a look at my website to see a video of the system and how it works, and to see step-by-step guides to making such a system.

A very nice idea. I take it that the casing is just a rough effort to work with and not a final model. A very interesting idea indeed. Good luck with the other consoles that you'll add to it.

A fantastic idea. I'll keep my eye on it. Reminds me of the time I tried to design an all-in-one sega system.

Yakumo - Of course it is the final model! :fresh:

This isn't a commercial product and I have no access to CNC equipment or vacuum forming equipment so everything is hand made. It is prettier however than many portables made, feels fine to hold and the controls are in the right places.

The system needs to be the size it is to take original console motherboards, this uses original hardware and game cartridges and is not an emulator gadget like OneStation after all.

What's the battery life like on that?

Haven't fully tested battery life, but it is estimated to be about 5.5 hours before needing to replace with my spare pair of cells. This is quite a long time!

Thanks 3do. I don't believe anyone has made one before; even on the BenHeck forum there had been talk of such a system for some time but no-one else managed to make one. Hence, my project is unique! When I first announced my intention on BenHeck forum to make it I got comments of "here we go again, gets discussed from time to time by various members but nothing happens" - not the case anymore, is it!

    looks like alot of work.

the n64 is one of the more difficult systems to portabilize (next to the gamecube).

Indeed, alphagamer, that's one of the reasons I did it first.

There is alot of people that want to do things like this but never actually do anything but you have started to create what you wanted which is good.

Was thinking of making a SNES or MegaDrive portable myself not too long ago but right now its just an idea in my head since i have limited skills and not much time to do anything but maybe one day i may actually make one purely for myself.

When MD chinese clones get even smaller, I'll make my portable MD. The size is constraining me.
