I think its a bad idea but think of this. If we could go back in time today with our laptops and tech would we try the same thing to get games that went unreleased. I can see a elite assembler team going back in time with modern laptops to try and get RE 1.5 and some other gems from conventions and what not lol.

Apart from what Subbie has pointed out, is that it wasn't just a PC game he was stealing. It was an unreleased piece of code allegedly worth millions to the software developer right from under their noses during a games conference.

Now, even I think that is worthy of being tackled by the FBI Cybercrime team.

I'm sure your comment was a little more tongue in cheek than it came across in your post though ;-)

Now this really jerks my chain, i get the whole stealing the game is bad, i really do. But to claim the theft is worth in excess of millions of dollars is just plain stupid.

If he had of managed to get the whole 2gb, and then deleted the game from there laptop as well as every xdk on the booth, as well as every xdk in their studio, as wellas their asset library, source code, build snapshots etc etc, then i could maybe see the justification of this value.

Im in no way condoning what he did at all, but Atomic must have made a serious booboo here to get this figure.

BTW, to anyone who thinks this is a good idea, think of the alternatives, a USB stick anyone?

Want more access? Create a nice spynet/turkojan/enter rat name here bot, encrypt the sucker to smudge the DynDNS is routed through, load it onto usb stick with a simple autorun script, plug it into as many laptops as you see on pax floor. Wallah, you can now download as many builds as you feel like in the leisure of your local internet cafe.*

*do not attempt this... its painfully obvious sarcasm, but just incase yes i have pointed it out!

I think the value was something someone said that they shouldn't have. I think they pretty much just tagged the whole cost of development (rounded up of course) as a figure. If so, 5 million amount sounds about right for the cost of development on this type of game.

Cops and Prosecutors always like to exaggerate and inflate the numbers for press releases to make their cases look more important.

Whats ironic is that if you type "atomic games breach" in google you get a whole bunch of links about this incident, but only a few about the actual game

    No publicity is bad publicity?

The "At the end of the day here, we aren't exactly dealing with John Dillinger, you know?" comment from the court press secretary had me rolling. ;)
